advice on adding a bathrroom

can anyone here tell me if it's possible to add a full bathroom in a space that is only 6x5?

i'm willing to install smaller fixtures ie: small corner sink that hangs off the wall as opposed to sitting on a vanity, small toilet and small corner stall shower. am i crazy for even thinking this is doable?

any tips and/or advice will be most appreciated.

i was a student teacher at the bfs preschool many years ago and am happy to see that they are finally looking for a larger space. even back then [late 80s] it felt too confined.

in queens, forest hills or kew gardens may work for you. there are areas in both nabes that are close to express subway lines [e & f] and the lirr. forest hills has some of the best schools in the city.

the hubby and i looked recently in jersey city [exchange place area] but since we have no kids in school we could not justify the outrageously high real estate taxes.

"what exactly does "Deeded parking spot" mean anyway?"

i think it means you purchase the parking spot so you "own" it and can sell it if/when you sell your apartment.

really surprised that there is no link to yesterday's ny times about the williamsburg trustafarians and that mommy & daddy are no longer able to support them in the manner to which they've become accustomed.

many thanks to you all for your helpful advice and suggestions. will try to report back when this project is underway and hopefully will be able to provide some pics.

interesting suggestions all! perhaps i should have mentioned in my initial post that i'm on the top floor of a prewar coop and i fear the wet floor bathroom would not work in my situation.

i am also having difficulty finding a contractor to do this work. the few i contacted some weeks ago never got back to me which i find odd since i have the cash and given the state of the economy there can't be too much work for contractors these days. if anyone knows and can provide the name & contact info for a reliable contractor in nyc it would also be very much appreciated.

given my username it's no surprise that i would suggest that you can definitely find an apartment in bensonhurst that fits your criteria.

and why not dig up the belt parkway under which you are guaranteed to find the remains of old mobsters?

a few years ago after waiting patiently for 15 minutes for some asshole whose car was blocking mine i removed the north carolina tag which left the offending vehicle with no tags as north carolina requires back tags only. i then called the local precinct and reported a double parked with no tags. i was giddy with excitement as i watched it being towed away.

got it but in their infinite wisdom the jackasses at nyc finance so mangled the spelling of my last name that there will most certainly be a problem cashing it.

perhaps it could lead to people behaving like civilized humans who share the planet with others as opposed to behaving like selfish schmucks?

this is how to deal with a legspreader if you ever find yourself next to one: place your leg that's furthest from him [i say him because this is almost always a male] on top of and across your leg that is closest to him so the bottom of your shoe is right next to his leg and if he gets any closer he will have a nice treadmark from the bottom of your shoe. unless they have filthy clothing [ie construction workers] they don't like this one bit. i never move my leg if they ask me to or say excuse me. i will only move my leg if they de-spread. if they re-spread, i respond in kind. works for me every time.

legspreaders suck. i cherish my offpeak commute times which minimizes exposure to such assholes.

i live on the top floor in a 1250 sq ft 2 bedroom prewar [1923] and the folks directly below me put in a second full bath next to the original. gotta say they did a nice job but if they were above me i would have raised bloody hell.

odd that the kitchen was renovated with high end appliances but such dull countertops and sink fixtures with no undermount sink.

anyone looking for an excellent public school system would do very well in the williamsville central school district in williamsville/east amherst ny. it is near the ub north campus and ranked 49th out of 693 school districts in the state.

i'm too lazy to search for each post asking "what is a beef on weck" ... it's a thinly sliced rare roast beef sandwich on a kimmelweck or kummelweck roll [basically a kaiser roll topped with pretzel salt & caraway seeds] served with au jus [beef juice] and horseradish. it's commonly found on the menu of every good bar and tavern in the buffalo area. beef on weck + a cold beer = my husband's idea of food heaven.

the bar bill tavern in east aurora is the place for wings & beef on weck in the buffalo area.

the "modern kitchen" design seems oddly out of place with the rest of the house.

i'm 44, grew up in bensonhurst and lived in buffalo for 4 years while attending ub in the 80s. the winters are not for the meek. they are long and depressing.
