Master Plumber
My wife and I just bought a 4 story brownstone in Bed Stuy. The house is in great shape, but I need to find a plumber that is skilled with kitchen renovations. Any recommendations will be appreciated.

Master Electrician
My wife and I just purchased a 4-story on Jefferson Ave in Bed-Stuy. The house is in excellent condition, but needs some serious electrical work. Can anyone recommend a master electrician?
Thank you

This news is infuriating. Everyone has to do their part to support the homeless, but the armory on Bedford is more than Bed-Stuy's fair share. You better believe that in this economy there will be a large increase in the numbers of unemployed and potentially destitute men.
What are Bed Stuy residents to do when the plight of the city is being dumped in our laps?
Can someone please tell me what government agency or council member allowed this?

Great post. I have already reached out and I am trying to get my mom to do the same for her place.
As long as we are talking about bad jobs as kids.....I worked as a night janitor for a school on Eastern Pkwy one summer. Each night I would go to my grandmother's place (in Flatbush) for dinner and walk home (to Halsey) at the end of my shift. Spike was filming Crooklyn that summer, so it was like walking onto a Hollywood movie set once you got to Halsey between Nostrand and Bedford.....ONE OF THE BEST SUMMERS OF MY LIFE.

To quote a movie that was shot on location in Bed-Stuy.....
"Those that know, don't talk. Those that talk, don't know"

To those in the know, hope to see you when I'm walking around the "hood" with the 5th generation of my family to live here (my son). I'll be the guy pushing a baby carriage in one hand and a plate of jerk from Brooks Valley in the other.
To those that talk. Keep yapping.

Every Bed-Stuy related post devolves into the same theme, "Nobody should pay $X for a home in the ghetto".
As a 4th generation Bed-Stuy resident (spent some time living in Flatbush and PSlope after college), I can tell you that the neighborhood is not for the majority of NYers.
Stay away. Bad investment. Do not buy here.
Please keep the prices down for suckas like me who just bought a 4 story with all original detail around the corner from the house my great grandfather owned.
There is no way this neighborhood will rebound. I grew up here. It is much worse than it was in the go-go crack 80's. You could get shot just walking down the street nowadays. The few (hords)white people that have moved in are certifiably crazy.
Just do me a favor. When I list my house for $300K less than I paid for it in a few years, be kind to me on this blog.
Thanks Stoners

None of you posting your objections would even consider living in the locations that the Hasidum have taken over and developed. So why do you even care?
Oh I know, you have to drive by, or walk by the "fugly" buildings that hurt your eyes....grow up.
This is a non issue, but a great way to start a useless racial debate.

1:53....don't mean to fuel your fire, but they are starting work today. Are you sure something did not get lost in translation when you were initially dealing with them?

Just want to verify that this is on one of the best blocks in Bed-Stuy.
I would factor buying the tenants out into any equation for this property.
Love the non responses to the hateful comments. Indifference is the best way to counter that type of ignorance.

Gateway Review (Original Poster)
Very professional. One of their plumbers came to the house as scheduled (Tuesday, within 3 days of my first phone call) and I received a well written outline of cost estimates.
They are not cheap, but I am going with them because the GC that is handling the project thinks that Gateway can do the job and I believe that you pay for quality.
Will let you all know how it goes.

Thanks everyone. I am having Gateway come the the house this week to give a job estimate. I will post you on the results.

Great, but this is a large job (a kitchen and several bathrooms), so I am looking for a good recommendation to avoid a negative experience.
Thank you

I was unable to attend last night's meeting. Can someone please tell me what (if any) action items were discussed for combating this?
