Providing home owners with clean and cost-effective design for renovations of any size.

I love the collaboration that comes with creating something new, whether it be a kitchen remodel, a gut renovation of a townhouse, or a new home. I really enjoy turning your vision into reality, hopefully one that is even better than you had imagined, and within your budget. To do this we discuss your wishes, and ensure that they dovetail with structural and mechanical issues, building code, budgetary constraints, and of course design considerations. We work together to arrive at a design that meets all of your various needs, and then I develop this into a sets of drawings that can be presented to the Building Department (if required), and to contractors for bid. Once a contractor has been chosen, and permits pulled, construction is ready to begin. With close attention to detail, we will navigate the construction process. The end result is always well worth it.

MESH ArchitecturesDUMBOArchitects

MESH has designed a wide range of projects, large and small, residential and commercial. We have also designed many Web sites (they are habitable spaces), sometimes integrating them into architecture. We need to reconceive relationships between people and their environments in the age of the digital network.

We are always exploring new materials and technologies. In New York, where many projects are renovations, we integrate contemporary materials and techniques into old structures without erasing the older construction. MESH has established a reputation for luminous spaces with new translucent materials.

Along with innovative design goes a dedication to a client-oriented process. Successful projects are always the result of a fruitful collaboration of the client’s desires and the architect’s ingenuity. We put attention to our client’s requirements before style partisanship. This leads to innovative solutions that satisfy the body, spirit, and budget while pleasing the eye.

Homes are like microcosmic urban spaces, a setting for activities and events ranging from solitary meditation to family breakfast to work meetings. We develop new residential concepts and view the connected areas of the home as a stimulating environment for personal and interpersonal exploration and growth.

E/L STUDIOMidtown WestInterior design

E/L STUDIO is the architecture and design collaboration of Elizabeth Emerson and Mark Lawrence, AIA. Together, our experience reflects a broad range of project types and scales. We share a deep belief in the transformative potential of design. We believe in the promise of architecture to mitigate social conditions and enable positive change. Operating from bases in New York City and Washington, DC, we draw from our two locations – innovation and flexibility from the metropolis, civic and public engagement from the capital. The hybrid of these two environments enables us to envision new solutions. In our work, we resist the tendency to calcify the status quo as we resist customary stylistic distinctions. In search of new tectonic solutions which, through their construction, anticipate new programs and new events, we develop strategies and resolutions which are unique to the problems and potential posed in each individual project. We create an architecture which is anticipatory; which fosters new relationships and growth.
