oakWe were hoping that we were going to be able to get all our floors done without needing to buy any more wood, but it’s not looking like that’s going to happen. Although we did use new wood in the rental bedroom already, we are regretting that decision and want to find some salvaged old flooring for the rest of the job.

  • We need about 100 square feet of very thin wood to match the height of an existing parquet floor; 2-inch oak is preferable, but width is less important than thickness in this case.
  • Then we need about 300 square feet of other wood, thickness not so important. Our preference would probably again be for some old 2-inch oak but we’re not matching anything in this case so we could be open to a range of possibilities.

We know there are a bunch of sources on the Internet but are hoping we can drum up something local quickly. Any leads?

  1. We just ordered some salvaged parquet flooring and 300 s.f. of salvaged red oak from Olde Good Things’ Scranton warehouse. It will be delivered to NYC within 48 hours. The parquet was $4/sf and the red oak was $3.50/sf.

  2. best place i know in city is build it green. we bought 360sqft of solid oak t&g there, it was the last they had but might have more now. i think they got the floor from the same place they got your marble.

  3. i was in the exact same situation and had the best experience with the scranton office of “olde good things”. sent a floor sample from my kitchen and he matched it! wonderful guy who knows his wood cut some gorgeous old beams for me and put them on the truck into the city. had them the next day–cheap.
