We were just passing by St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church on Bushwick Avenue over the weekend and wondering what was going on with the space. The church and associated buildings at 626-628 Bushwick Avenue are covered in street art, and some of the doors are boarded up; the scaffolding came down a while ago. Well, DNAinfo answered our question: The deconsecrated church was purchased by an LLC in January for $4,100,000, according to PropertyShark, and will be converted into 99 apartments by developers Cayuga Capital, said DNAinfo. In the meantime, like many spaces in Bushwick, it’s being used to host parties, concerts and other arts happenings. Recent college graduate Tony Blahd has also been shooting a movie in there. The feature-length comedy is called “Rover” and is “about a cult at the end of its days trying to make a movie about their beliefs,” Blahd said, “and they hire this young kid who’s a first-time director to help them.” The developers are replacing the stained glass with clear windows; a studio in the building is anticipated to rent for $1,900 a month.
