Sorry, Yankees fans, but Forest Hills Stadium is New York City’s most storied outdoor arena. Arthur Ashe and Billie Jean King made history there, while the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand, Diana Ross, Jimi Hendrix, Talking Heads, and local boys Simon & Garfunkel made music there. The horseshoe-shaped stadium, which was built in 1923, fell into disrepair in the 1990s, but now it’s back after a roughly $3,000,000 structural overhaul and it’s been hosting concerts all summer. The revamped fun continues this Saturday, when Modest Mouse and Brand New share the stage. Formed in Washington state in 1993, Modest Mouse is the indie rock paragon with two Grammy nominations and a Billboard number one song, “We Were Dead before the Ship even Sank.” Long Island born Brand New is an alternative/indie rock group whose fourth and most recent album, Daisy, reached number six on Billboard.
