Filling Gaps in Wood Floor?

Anyone know if it's OK to put wood filler between all the floor boards in a wood floor to close gaps? Various online sources say no, including Reader's Digest. However, my floor guy who has ten years of experience says it's fine.

The supposed danger is cupping or boards popping out of place -- or creation of worse gap problems -- as the wood expands and contracts i the summer months.

Drawer Rails

Hi, I have loosely related question. The rails in my chest of drawers failed and I need to by replacement. These are 5/8" tall 1/4" thick and 12" long rails. I have no luck with finding these on internet. HD does not carry them. Any other place I can look for them.

The chest of drawers is in brownstone so this post is completely on topic.

Woodworker: Box Out Windows

Looking for a reliable and not extremely overpriced woodworker to box out about 8 windows in my non-historic district 1877 brownstone in Brooklyn. If anyone has had this done by someone they'd recommend I'd love to hear about it. Thanks!

Looking For Moulding Source

I’m skim coatinga few room in my 1920’s apartment. I’ve stripped 80 yrs of paint off of some baseboard and picture rail molding….savage work.
Some wall panel molding I’ve chosen to remove permanently.
Other panel molding, I’ve semi-striped…it’s just too much effort. I’d like to just remove it from the wall and proceed with the skim coat, then replace it with new molding.

Here’s a few pics of the moulding’s profile, it measures 1-1/4” wide by 1/4”or 5/16” thick.:

Does anyone know of a source for molding with a matching profile, or a rough approximation of this profile, for cheap? I’m NOT looking for anything clotted with numerous layers of paint I’d have to strip. It can be new or used, once installed it will be painted, NOT stained, so surface appearance doesn’t need to be pristine as long as there is not thick paint on it obscuring the detail and that it isn’t scratched or gouged to hell. I do not own the apartment, so price is important.

I’m looking for anywhere from 30’ to a few hundred feet.

Thanks for any leads.

scrap wood

An odd request, but does anyone have scrap 2 by 4 pieces, no longer than 20 inches or so, that they're looking to unload? My son is very disappointed that the left over 2 x 4 pieces from a small home project were used. We are in Prospect Heights/Park Slope and will pick up. Thanks.

Woodworking Class / Studio Space

I've seen 3rd Ward, Makeville and Treehouse mentioned on here. Does anyone have experience with these and recommend one over the others? Or any other local classes / studios? I was a studio art major with focus in sculpture 10 yrs ago and looking to get back into it, so have some experience, but could use a refresher course and then need space outfitted with tools to work in. Any help would be much appreciated!

Stripper for wood paneling?

The good news is I found what appears to be mahogany wood paneling (floor to ceiling) in my dining room.

The bad news is that it's covered in several layers of paint, including at least one lead paint layer.

It's a large room and I wonder if it would cost more to strip it than replace it.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a professional service that can do this kind of work?

Thanks.

Rec for DIY woodwork class

I recently took a woodworking class at Makeville Studios (www.makeville.com) and highly recommend it esp. if you are new to power tools. Nice clean workshop and very helpful folks there.
They also have classes in DIY home improvement stuff.
