Reglazing windows
Looking to have my front porch windows reglazed and or protected by storm windows - does anyone have someone to recommend to reglaze old wood windows or information on storm windows?
Thanks
Security iron work cost $$$
Estimate recently given by Vinnie's Italian Ironworks seems high - 2 windows, one garden apt entrance door(no decoration), and front entrance french-door style with transome. Ornamental elements consist of two rows of circles; one top one bottom and small decorative elements alterate rows on the bars.
Quote given $8,000.00 - is this extremly high? We are told they are "expensive" but do good work. Thoughts?

Windowless
I am getting pretty close to purchasing my first place (cheer!). The thing is that it is an old tenement kind of building where the bedroom doesn't have any windows. It is a long apartment so the kitchen and living room get good light, but nothing in the bedroom. I was wondering (other than lots of light fixtures), if anyone else has had to deal with this. I was thinking that I could "make" a small window using those thick glass blocks, thereby letting in some natural light. The wall is not load-bearing.
Thoughts Brownstoner friends?

best windows for landmark brownstone
We're finally biting the bullet and replacing our south-facing windows in our landmarked brownstone. We want maximum noise reduction and energy efficiency. Currently, our windows let in lots of noise, lots of heat, and lots of cold. We have a fiberglass window in the back that we love, and some vinyl windows that we don't. Can someone recommend a window type & brand as well as an installer that will work for a landmarked house? We are considering Park Slope Glass. We are willing to pay extra for windows that meet our criteria as well as Landmarks'. Thank you!

blowing out rear wall in historic district.
We have a dark and narrow rowhouse in an historic district. My husband longs to blow out entire rear wall and install glass windows on at least the first level and hopefully all levels. He wants something more modern and clean that attached picture -- that's just to give you an idea.
Anyway, what are the chances we'd get permission? And would it cost more than, say, 30k per floor to take out all the masonry and build these in?
And how likely is it that entire 100 year old building will collapse or something (my fear)?

Help! Window leaking
Help! A window on our top floor is leaking and the water is running down two more floors through the window below making walls wet. What we can we do as a quick fix and what is a long term solution?
