Shower/tub against window - leaks?

We are renovating two bathrooms. I have seen some beautiful bathrooms configured with the walk in shower at the end of the bathroom and the window is part of the shower. Bathtub/shower as well. One contractor said it's great no problem, another said no matter what you do it will leak water into the wall. Does anyone have this? For a good period of time?

Rebates for Energy Efficient Windows

I have heard that there is a program (possibly more than one) available for homeowners to receive rebates (per window) for installing energy efficient windows in their homes. I have tried to find more information on-line, but come up empty. If anyone has heard of this program or has solid info on how to take advantage of it, please let me know. Thanks.

landmarked approved windows

I live in an old building in a landmark district and I've been informed by the co-op board that we're about to replace dozens of windows at great expense. Things happen. But when I inquired about the windows themselves, I was told they were single-pane glass windows with a really low energy rating bcs "that's what Landmarks requires". Is this right? Seems so nuts. We can't even have double pane glass? Also the frames will be all-wood -- again, as I was told was required by the LPC. beautiful but crazy expensive.

I've tried to find the rules myself, but can anyone confirm all this for me?

custom nyfd security gate needed

I want to install a security gate on the inside of a garden apartment casement window. I'd like it to be NYFD compliant with an organic (custom) design to match the decor of the garden. Has anyone out there done a similar project? Can anyone recommend a vendor or welder?

Balancing privacy and light with shower window

We have a rear facing window looking out from the shower/tub in our 2nd floor bathroom. The building facing our backyard is a former warehouse converted to apartments that comes up to the rear property line, with, of course, lot line windows. We are looking for a good solution for the bathroom window that will let us get the right balance of light and privacy. We tried vinyl mini-blinds, but those have not held up well. We also tried frosting the window glass, but it looks so industrial. Any other ideas for how we might deal with the window?

ideas for window treatments...

we're coming to the end of our reno (hoorah!) and i'm trying to figure out what window treatments to put over our nice new windows. they are all kids' rooms and the windows aren't deep enough for shudders :)

so i'm trying to figure out what would go best on these windows. we don't need black out, but would like some sun-light control... most of all, they must be able to stand up to some major fidgeting with by my no-impulse-control 4 yo boy.

if you don't have advice re: the window treatment, maybe advice as to where i should go to talk to some experts?

thanks!

Need someone to sew (and maybe install) curtains

I have picked out fabric that I want made into curtains. They are to cover a large window approximately 8' x 8'.

Can anyone recommend someone to do this, and/or what this should cost? Thanks!

Free Brownstone original windows including bay - or advice on who may want?

I can't stand to see these go to waste and am about to get a uhaul to take them over to Build It Green but wanted to post here first. We have a four story house of original windows and weights, some more interesting sizes than the standard as the house has a bay window and mansard roof. Thanks!
