Stripping Moldings

I'm trying to strip my moldings of many years of paint. I've read through the blogs here on the subject and have a few follow up questions.

From what I read the two top (safe) contenders for interior paint removal seem to be Peelaway or the Silent Paint Remover. The top professional paint stripper seems to be Joe Salem. Does anyone know what Joe uses to strip moldings?

How do you know if you're dealing with lead paint? I assume the base layer is lead b/c of age but is there another way? If dealing with lead paint, is a gel type paint remover, like Peelaway, safe? Should I use a respirator if I'm using a non-toxic paint remover? I'm currently using a product called Citris Strip stripping gel - it's supposedly non-toxic. I'm using a respirator nonetheless b/c I'm paranoid - but I'm sweating my ass off with the thing on. Am I being overcautious?

Any other advise for a person doing their own stripping work that will save me time and energy?

Peace

I have several wooden shutters that need to be stripped. Any suggestions on the least laborious, cost effective method?

Wood Stripping-what is included?

I wonder what folks experience with strippers is. I just had someone strip a banister, including the spindles and the newel post. The agreement was to "strip the wood but not to refinish it." The stripping process took out about 99% of the paint but left bits of original varnish-type finish, especially where there were right angled bits on the newel post and spindles.

The wood stripper said that to get out the last 1% was the job of a refinisher and not included within the description "strip the wood."

We settled this between us with a small discount on the price. But I wonder what other folks' experience has been.

Rock Miracle Paint stripper?

We are going to have someone strip and repaint our stoop. We've seen his work in the nabe and he does a very nice job. We are buying the supplies and he has requested Rock Miracle Paint stripper. I know it works great but I also know that it's quite toxic. Rock Miracle makes a"safer" product
MC Free Paint and Varnish Remover
Methylene Chloride Free - does anyone have experience with either of these products? Recommendations? Thanks.

Stripping facade paint

Wondering if someone can suggest the best way to strip chipping paint from our brownstone facade. I would like to do the work myself and have experience with various strippers but only with woodwork. Any suggestions?

Stripping Old Wood Doors

I have some old wood doors in very good condition that I want to have stripped & stained. Does anyone know what average price per door I should expect? I am getting such a wide range of estimates ($200 per door to $750 per door). Most of these are 6-pane doors. Thanks!

Recs for paint strippers

All of my doors and frames are caked with paint and I need to send them out for stripping. The last time I had paint stripped it was a disaster, so I'm looking for a recommendation for professional strippers who won't destroy the wood. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Best way to finish???

Best way to finish???

Another little item our GC didn't quite finished is the bannister. This was painted many times over, and after several rounds of stripping and sanding, we have some sections that look wonderfully smooth and ready for finish, and some that look like this. Question is, how to get the last little bits of paint off so we can put a finish on (we're thinking a tung oil finish). GC was reluctant to sand anymore because he thought it would cause damage it, and didn't think any more rounds of paint stripper would work. Any thoughts? Favorite products? Sanding techniques? Finish as is and live with the little paint marks?

Restoring Mouldings Around Doors

I've got totally messed up mouldings around the doors on my second floor - they're pine - I think - nicked, warped, etc. I need new doors, too. And will def replace the old doors - but I can't decide if I should try to restore the mouldings - or have a carpenter replace them - I assume that would take a ton of time. Any thoughts? I will definitely veer towards the cheaper

paint stripping

Can anyone recommend a paint stripper? Not a product (I've been trying to do it myself with Peelaway 6 and it's sheer drudgery) but rather a person who does it for a living. Many thanks --
