Anyone tried linseed paint?

The website that sells the silent paint remover claims that their linseed-oil based paints are longer-lasting ("50 years" with proper maintenance) than typical choices and don't require primer etc. Has anyone used their Allback brand exterior paint? I'm thinking of using it for windows and exterior trim, perhaps interior trim too. Thanks

Ellen Kennon Paint

Has anyone used Ellen Kennon full spectrum paint and if so is it worth the extra money? Thanks.

Color-b(l)ind

We are looking for suggestions on the following: we are picking out colors for painting ceilings and woodwork (casings, etc.). We tried Benjamin-Moore's "white-dove" on the ceiling but it looks kind of brown-ish. We are now considering B-M's "ceiling white". Our contractor told us that generally, people use the same color of the ceiling on their woodwork. Does anyone have thoughts on this and/or suggestions for what off-white would work for our woodwork? We have a variety of colors for the walls, including a light apricot, a light grey/blue, and a pale yellow for different rooms in the house. Thanks

Painter Recommendation

I would like to recommend Jamie Grubb, who recently painted my apartment. Jamie was professional, courteous, and quick. His price was very reasonable, especially for the high quality of work that he does. If you need any painting done, I would definitely give him a call - 917.446.5175.

Help! Need Lead Paint Removal Recs

My husband and I just bought an apartment and we are doing the painting pre-move in. The paint looked like it was in pretty good condition but as we started to scrub the walls for prep work we noticed that the baseboards are peeling. The building is pre-war so we expect that there is likely some lead paint under there.

Everything I've read about lead paint removal is starting to freak me out. Did you go with a company to strip away paint or did you do it yourself? Any good recommendations? How much did you pay and how quickly were they able to do it? The walls are in good shape, so we're just looking to redo the baseboards.

Paint Stripping?

I'd love some advice on paint stripping.

In terms of doors--is Big Apple Stripping still in business? I got their name off an earlier post, but after 3 calls to voice mail, I'm beginning to give up.

Those of you who used East Side Wood Stripping, did you pay the extra for sanding? Or how were they without sanding?

Has anyone used the "Silent Paint Stripper?" I'd love to do much of this myself, but I assume there has to be lead and don't know how freaked out to be. Thanks!

painting a bay

Can anyone recommend the proper paint and primer for painting a galvanized steel bay on the rear of a house? Most of the metal paints I've found don't work on galvanizing. I'm going to have to scrape it, and there a few rust spots, but other than that it's in good shape. Any recommendations for a paint brand?

Is skim coating necessary?

We just got bids back on from several contractors from our reno and one (of many) numbers that stuck out was the estimate for painting. The contractors said it's because of the skim coating specified by our architect. Is skim coating something we should definitely do? If so, any idea what a reasonable range would be to skim coat and paint about 2300 sq. ft. of new walls? Thanks!

painting plywood to look like sheet rock

we have a sheet rock wall as it meets the kitchen wall it meets a ply wood wall flush with a tape line.

is there anything we should treat the plywood wall with for the plywood wall to look like the sheet rock wall when painted or should we just throw a thin compound skim coat and then paint it.
