The logisitics of Carrara countertops
I've read on this blog that, as a natural marble and therefore porous, Carrara can stain and/or dull with extended exposure to foods and liquids, even if it's honed. Would a drying rack by the sink inflict permanent damage on the stone? If so, what are alternatives? Even with a dishwasher, there are always a few items to clean by hand -- how/where would you let them dry?
Cleaning Marble Mantels
We are looking for someone to clean some of our marble mantels. I see a past reference for Alex from Sparclean - does anyone else have any recommendations for a contractor who can clean and polish our mantels?
Thanks

Good source for marble subway tiles
What are good sources for Calacutta or Carrera marble subway-sized tiles? Would need the matching chair rails and baseboard moulding as well.

Non-penetrating varnish/sealer for marble mantel?
We'd like to protect the marble mantel in our apartment while we sublet it -- worried about stains from coffee mugs set down on the mantel, etc. But we also like the bare/honed look it has currently, so want to use something that we can later strip off. Can anyone suggest a suitable product? Has anyone done this successfully?

marble refinishing
Does anyone have any experience refinshing marble mantles. I want to clean them (they have not been painted) and give them a honed finish. I am interested in anyone who has done this themself and can recommend procedures or in the name of contractor who has done good work.

can marble floor tile be ground down?
my bathroom marble floor tile wasn't put in too well. and there are areas where the tile is not even, i've had a few contractors come in and spoke to a few marble specialists about grinding the marble down a little bit so it is smooth.
i'm hearing difeerent opinions, some say they never heard of it and some are charging astronomical amounts to do it.
any ideas?
thanks

Marble cleaning
Has anyone successfully cleaned white marble mantles? Mine are unpainted but need to be cleaned and honed down some. Marble refinishers seem a bit expensive. Any suggestions. Thanks
