House Tutor for New Homeowners
In my first year as a homeowner I've spent a lot of time and money reacting to things, so have decided to shift to a more proactive approach. However learning home maintenance basics through books and a NHS Flatbush course isn't cutting it. A hand's on approach will work better. Seeking recommendations for someone to serve as a home tutor of sorts -- a mix between a home inspector, handyman, and teacher -- to provide the 101 on basic electrical, plumbing, heating, etc. This person must be a good communicator and enjoy sharing their knowledge and experience with others.
Any ideas?

Bad Sidewalk & Broken Ankles
So I was on Pacific btwn Nevins and Bond walking home... Slam! I smack into the ground hurling my bags and rolling my ankle in one of the large cracks of the pangea that is this area of Brooklyn. I'm laid out with a bad leg and so it goes...
I'll heal, but in the meantime is there something I should do? Someone I should tell? Report that the sidewalk is just not safe? I hope your only answers aren't "Sue!"

Anyone acid wash their concrete?
If so, did you do it yourself or hire someone?
Any recommendations on what companies do this and the cost?

Any caution when you look for tenants and give lease
My husband and I finally got very beautiful 3fam townhouse with high ceiling and original details. Now what? We have to have nice tenants. What's good way to find good tenants besides Craigs list and brokers? How do you get lease form? We want to add some restriction (such as no renovation without our approval) to lease form because apts have many details. I don't know how to do credit history check and background check,,,,. How much do we have to know about tenants such as job, SS#, private problem? What kind of questions are good?
How to maintain your tenants etc.
I am so confused now.
Please give me any advise from your experiences.
Deeply appreciated.

choosing energy companies
Has anyone actually shopped around for gas and electricity companies? obviously the most common is CON ED and KEYSPAN... but is it worth doing some research with other providers out there to see if there is a chance at saving money? anyone have any prior experience or recommendations of alternative energy companies? This might also be a stupid question, I apologize in advance but is Keyspan and ConEd practically the same company? The only reason I ask is because they share the same address in Queens. THANKS.

Cleaning Service Needed in Prospect Heights
We are moving into a brownstone condo that has just been gut renovated.
The apartment is pretty clean overall, but we want a professional cleaning service to come in and do a general cleaning (get rid of dust from construction, clean bathrooms, etc) before we move in.
Can anyone recommend a good professional cleaning service that works in the Prospect Heights area?
