Armory/Homeless Shelter in Crown Heights
What does everyone think of trying to turn the homeless shelter into a charter school? Does anyone know any community organizations that would be willing to help in thin endevor?

Landmarks & Crow Hill
The September meeting of Crow Hill Community Association (CHCA) will be Tuesday, September 16, 7:30 pm at the Haitian American Day Care Center/1491 Bedford Ave/at Bedford & St. John's.
We have started to explore the possibility of obtaining landmark status for Crow Hill and we want everyone in the community to understand what this will mean for them and have a chance to get their questions answered.
All are welcome to attend the meeting but If you can't make it, we have also compiled a very short survey to help us understand where the community stands on this issue. Please take the time to help us by answering a few questions: http://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?key=pr13YkCtOII5oMfyyRCxUXw.

St Stephens Sacred Heart School Opening?
After a bunch of demolition & construction this summer, today there were moving trucks at the St.Stephens (Sacred Heart) school on Summit Street, next to the church, between Henry St and Hicks Street.
Is this really re-opening as a school? After being empty for so long I was wondering if it was going to be flipped into condominiums!
Any ideas on opening date ?

How Do I Get A Public Hearing ?
Landmarks has rejected a design (twice) for the new iron handrails we propose for the front of our house. The current iron handrails are illegal as the previous owner never sought Landmarks approval. Nice, right? Despite best efforts at being historically accurate and matching the existing already-approved ironwork, we cannot seem to get approved and must now go the way of a public hearing. But how do we do this? I see on the LPC site that hearings are scheduled, but how do I get my case on the agenda?
Thanks for any guidance!

Landmarks Preservation Commission and Window Bars
I replaced my straight, plain window bars with these almost 2 years ago. The building just received a letter that they are not compliant because I didn't have a Landmarks permit. I can apply for a permit, but when I called Landmarks, they said that window bars with curves - such as the ones I now have - would probably not be approved. When I mentioned that I see window bars in the neighborhood that curve out to accommodate air conditioners, the said those window bars do not comply with Landmarks standards either, and that Landmarks hasn't sited those buildings. Has anyone had experience with Landmarks and window bar styles? My options are to apply for the permit and hope they legalize these, or have them removed, photograph the window with no bars, submit that to Landmarks and have the Letter to cure the violation removed. Then I start a new application and install plain, straight bars. I am trying to decide which route to take, remove and replace or convince Landmarks to let me keep these. Located in Cobble Hill. Any advice appreciated. Thanks in advance.

301 Cumberland Eyesore
Has anyone noticed the "planters" being built at 301 Cumberland? Though this building is not a townhouse is a pretty nice 1920-30's apt. building with beautiful stone carvings. I didn't notice any landmark approval for this eyesore of a job.

LPC super delay in review
Has anyone else had to wait over 2 months for LPC to approve their project? The only thing that should concern them is changing the windows on the facade which we are replacing with Marvins Landmark windows. We have waited over 2 months and losing so much money without these permits. We are thinking of going down to the LPC office and talking to the examiner. Has anyone done this? We are pretty desperate.

"Bedford District" about to be landmarked!
I just received a letter from my block association - or actually, a consortium of nearby block associations - telling me that several blocks in the Southwest end of Bed-Stuy are currently being considered for landmark status: Halsey between Bedford and Nostrand, Hancock between Bedford and Tompkins, and Jefferson between Nostrand and Tompkins. There's a community meeting coming up for local residents to ask questions about the landmarking process. Since I won't be able to attend the meeting, I was wondering if any readers had information to share about this process... pros, cons, what to expect. I am very pleased that the buildings around here will be protected (assuming of course that the landmarking goes off without a hitch), but I'm wondering if we should try to complete exterior work on our building now to avoid the hassle of getting landmark approval later... stuff like that. Thanks in advance for any input.
