DOB v. Landmarks
My neighbor is planning to bulldoze the front of their 1860s brownstone to put a garage in the ground floor and create a driveway from the street to the front of the garage. This is on a recently landmarked block in Prospect Heights. Looks like they got the DOB to give them the permit while the application for the block's landmark status was pending. Is there anything that can be done to stop this? It completely violates the whole point of landmarking. On top of that, the owners are evicting a 30-year resident of the neighborhood who sold them the building in order to turn her apartment into a garage.
Any suggestions for how to stop this?

Landmark Sidewalk Renovation
We received a sidewalk violation. We live in a landmark house and our sidewalk does need improvement. It is my understanding that Landmarks says we must keep the bluestone. Is this true? Some previous owners have made put in cement patches in some parts of the sidewalk. I am sorely tempted just to replace the bluestone with cement entirely, as I have heard that repairing bluestone sidewalks costs a fortune and, frankly, it would be beyond our means at the present time. I would need to get a grant. Does anyone here have experience, or know of anyone with experience in dealing with Landmarks regarding sidewalks, or with just ignoring Landmarks and putting in cement?
Thank you,
Summerfield

Definitions LPC
Anybody care to hazard a guess as to what LPC means when they say "storefront infill" and "storefront enframements"? In a Certificate of Appropriateness LPC has indicated the infill to be painted one color and the enframements another.

Landmarks building questions
I live in a condo in Manhattan that I just found out was recently landmarked, so I have two questions:
1. We want to replace our windows. The ones in our building are NOT the original. (V. ugly). (And yes, the building will allow us to replace our own windows). So does the landmarks commission look back at old pictures and make you replace with something similar to what used to be there? Or do we have more lee-way than that?
2. I also want to install a through-the-wall airconditioner. It's on the side of the building, not facing the street, but you can still see it from the street (we're on the 5th floor and the building next door is only 1 story high). Is this a big no no?
Thanks for your help!

Crown Heights Historic District
Did anyone else living in Crown Heights North get a notice about the vote on the Historic District next week (whether the LPC will set a public hearing on creating a new historic district)? Is anyone going to attend? Is anyone familiar with how long it took for the other Crown Heights north historic district to be created (from start to finish)?
Also, as a side, does anyone have any idea what the heck is happening with the proposed Prospect Heights historic district? Why has that been languishing for so long after the public hearing? I saw the recent article a couple weeks ago, but it wasn't super detailed.

Long Reach of the LPC
Renovating an exterior of a building in Union Square which of course requires LPC approval. A new tenant is gut renovating the 1st floor also. We discovered last week that the previous tenant's interior construction plan was submitted and approved by LPC. Is this normal procedure or was this a "courtesy" extended to people who I believe have large delicate egos (LPC). Building is in a landmark district but is not a landmarked building.

BUT we were just informed that we need to take off the window gates on the parlor level of our brownstone bc they are not original-- Anyone know anyone selling period gates or reproductions or know how much this costs? Any help would be appreciated!
