Getting Dropped By Allstate
I've gone through the archives and have seen many varying comments on insurers, etc. I've finally fallen victim to Allstate's policy of dropping Brooklyn Brownstone owners because our properties are " too close to water ".
I see state farm getting raked over the coals, but their premiums are incredibly tempting. Brownstone Insurance inc as well. But can someone give some concrete advice(i.e. real, consistent, negative or positive experiences with these insurers that warrants the commentary? )
I'm not interested in hearing " with premiums so low, how can they afford to cover you etc.?"
And likewise, if you have a wonderful story of an insurance carrier that is perfect for you, please share.
Thanks.

Insurance Recs
I would just like to see who people have used to insure their Brooklyn brownstones / townhomes. I have contacted AIG, Chubb, Fireman and State Farm. State Farm, a reputable company as far as I can tell, has by far the lowest premium.
Is there really significant added value with the other more premium insurers?

Insurance Claim After Fire Damage
Hello,
Our home was damaged by a neighboring fire yesterday. We have water damage, smoke damage and a lot of damage from the Fire Department having to break and enter into our house (no one was home at the time).
This is our first experience dealing with an insurance claim. Should we use an Insurance Adjuster or deal directly with our company? (we are with AllState). Also, there is a company called RestorationSOS that comes out in the aftermath of a fire and does damage assessment and decontamination. They say they bill the insurance company directly. Anyone with any experience of this?
Any advice on how to go through this process and best practices greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Dave

Condo Building Insurance
Hi all, for those on a condo board, how did you assess how much insurance your building needed (not the individual units)? I'm trying to figure out if a site visit is the norm or if there is another way for the board to know that the building is adequately insured.
If you have companies you like please share.
This is for a small condo building (4 units) if that makes a difference.
Thanks!

Dwelling insurance
Question for folks on Insurance. When running through the amount of Dwelling insurance coverage it seems that there are standard programs which produce an amount but it's largely based on Aq fottage.(give or take some features of the house) Do folks agree that if we were to rebuild then a good estimate would be $300-$350 per square foot ? Appreciate your thoughts.

Insurance consultant
My co-op wants to reconsider its insurance policies, and we are wondering if there are insurance consultants out there. I.e, someone who will give objective advice (for a fee) but not try to sell us insurance. Ideas?

Best Condo Insurance in Brooklyn?
Hi,
I just moved to Clinton Hill after almost 15 years living in Park Slope. I'm looking for opinions on the best homeowner's insurance that serves CH. I have a 3-bedroom condo that I will start renovating next spring, so I'm looking for knowledgeable, professional, thorough agencies experienced in Brooklyn brownstone renovations.
What other criteria or conditions did you consider when choosing your own insurance?
Thanks,
Roland
