hotwater heater-who's got the best price

Subject: best hot water heater

this gas heater is for 5 apartments totaling 10 people in 1 building. the current 100 gallon 199,000 btu is powerful enough but dying at 12 years old , it must remain chimney vented, and there is no room for twins.we cant add to our 5 year old boiler-we want a tank type gas water heater.

it only costs 100/mo. to run the old one we are replacing, so we're not real concerned with cost to operate. the main issue is rheem, ao smith, amer. standard or someone else.

amer. standard is 3000 to purchase versus 3500 for rheem or ao smith for the same size, but we were told we should get a better price on any of these and we're trying to find out where to buy them, in new york or on the net.

obviously, the american standard sounds good for the 500 dollar savings, but no one has been able to verify if it is a good unit. we were told that all units this size are commercial units, and that we don't need asme cert.

thank you for your input

Cleaning Air Ducts

My husband and I are buying an old limestone which uses forced air. We are sure that the ducts have not been cleaned in decades and want to get that work done. Has anyone used a company that they like and can recommend?

Thanks!

Forced Air Ducts in English Basement

Does anyone have any thoughts on how to clean up the ducts from our gas forced air heater that run through the English basement and kill the space? We can't afford a new water based system for 30k or so, so are trying to work with the existing heater but still turn the space from a basement/utility area into a more finished space for a growing family on a budget.
Thanks in advance!

oven/stove vent air leaks

Hello,

We have cold air coming in through our oven and through the stove vent (which is part of an installed microwave unit)

Has anybody had this issue and how is it solved? I can see the duct above the microwave in a cabinet and I figure it can't be too hard to install a valve up there, but what about the oven? And how do you set this up so it isn't totally inconvenient for cooking?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Is Ambient Heat Sufficient for a Bathroom?

We are doing a gut renovation of a brownstone and in the course of moving things around we've removed a steam riser that previously ran through our bathroom. We're trying to determine whether the ambient heat from the house will be sufficient to keep the bathroom from being chlly. It's an interior bathroom with no window and the house is usually pretty warm. We are installing Sun Touch electric radiant heat in the floor. Looking for input regarding whether an additional ceiling heating unit or electric towel warmer (doubling as a heaing element) would be advisable to supplement ambient heat?
