Wooden Cornice Ornaments

The vertical wooden ornamented supports holding our cornice is damaged. The details resemble acanthus leaves, rolls and dolphin tails. Does anyone know of a source so we can try to match and replace as needed? We'll file with Landmarks but anything has got to look better than our mishmash.

Exterior Wood Finish

I have refinished my walnut front doors with McCloskey's marine varnish twice now and the job lasts barely three years before the finish gets ashy and starts to peel. House is on WEST side of street. Any suggestions for a more durable finishing product??

Installing shutters! Help!

Landmarks is forcing us to install shutters. The previous owner had ordered them and now we are looking to install. Anyone have recommendations on contractors who could help? All the shutter guys only want us to purchase their specific brand of shutters. Thank you!

What kind of paint should I use for the metal stairs going from parlor floor to the back yard ? They get used by children and dogs, so the paint has to be super durable . Thanks

Extra Siding for Sale/Trade

Hi, I have some extra white aluminum siding that I had a heck of a time finding. like 10 or so 10 ft pieces with some foam insulation...white with a grain pattern.

Also have a couple of free pieces of hardie backer if anyone wants.

Need exterior/brick/leak repair

We've got some minor cracks in our brickwork in an exterior wall that has allowed some water seepage and created a mold problem in our basement. Before we clean up the mold we need someone to repair the leaks. Does anyone have a recommendation for a company to do that? It's a small job but we really need an expert to do it right so we don't have a repeat of the problem.

Grape Vines and Brick

I've just discovered that the vine growing on the side of my brownstone is a massive grape vine. I know most vines damage the brick and mortar, and should be cut, does anyone know whether grape vines damage the brick?

Iron Grating

Hello. I am in the process of scraping off old old paint on our decorative townhouse window grates and outside fence. I plan on repainting. Is there an easier way? Some sort of solvent that won't harm the iron...or am i doing this correctly? Thanks for the input!

Siding Help

Hi, I have a 3 story extension that is clad in aluminum siding. When replacing windows in the 2nd floor, we discovered a bunch of issues with the back wall which we've had to partially rebuild. Now I have to either try and match the siding or replace it all.

Can anyone recommend a siding person and/or estimate the cost to re-side the back wall? Would consider some sort of stucco but money is tight. Thanks

Painted Limestone

Hello.

I'm shopping for a new home. Hope to move back to Bklyn!
I've looked at some limestone buildings that have had their limestone exteriors been painted. If I were to buy one of these, how much trouble and expense would be involved in stripping the paint and restoring the beautiful limestone?

Has anyone on Brownstoner had experience with this?
