Restore brownstone front doors?
I need a reputable contractor who restores the heavy wooden front doors of a brownstone. Angie's List has no one, one owner said the contractor took her doors and refused to return them for 6 months until she paid twice the price. Any suggestions?

Are these estimates ridiculous?
I just received two estimates for small jobs from a contractor that I've been using for a while. One of them seems like it might be OK, the other seems very high to me. I was wondering what other people thought.
The first is to replace all of the wood on the outside of a dormer window. There is more than enough roof to stand on so this does not involve any scaffolding or big ladders. The estimate was almost $1800.
The second was to put in a new door to the backyard, including a screen door and an iron security door. This is only for labor, not the cost of the three doors. However, it also includes building a frame for the door - the old opening has been gutted to the brick. The estimate is $1400.
This is from a contractor whose work I know and trust.
Are these out of whack with reality?
glass and iron door
Here's our problem -- the beautiful old wooden entry door (with glass parts) enters directly into our brownstone owner's triplex. The abundant summer street noise flows through it, and then into the entire house given our largely open layout. We've had the door repaired but there's only so much we can do. We don't want to tear down or cover up old door, but here's the idea. Right now we have decorative iron bars in front of the door as a security door. Why not replace with a glass / iron decorated security door and seal it up pretty tight to help block more sound.
I've seen plenty of doors like this, but can't find someone who makes them (glass doors, yes; iron bars, yes -- but not what I'm talking about). Anyone have any ideas? Much appreciated.

Need source for new interior doors
Greetings all:
We're about to begin our reno and need to source out seven new interior doors. We have an Arts and Crafts/Mission sensibility and furniture, so we were thinking of oak with strong vertical lines.
Would prefer to deal local but not Lowes/HD, but not looking for really expensive custom work either. I seem to remember a large door place on 3rd ave that is gone, altho there's another around 12th and 3rd.
Any recommendations?

Repairs for Tall Front Doors
I need some recommendations for aprofessional who can repair my large front double doors. They are the (original?) tall ones with long glass panels. They are very badly damaged around the lock area, have visible gaps on the bottom, and are fairy gucked up with paint. Cost is a consideration.

Replacing parlor floor window with door
We're planning on building a parlor floor deck and need to replace the kitchen window with a door. Can anyone recommend sources for a simple storm door that is mostly all glass? Also, I'm curious to hear what others have done in this circumstance. Since the new door will be vulnerable to burglars, do you have a metal gate built? Has anyone used shatterproof laminate instead (to avoid the jail-bars look)? What about a screen door? Any suggestions would be very appreciated.
