Chimney and fireplaces
Yesterday I posted some questions and some were answered and most of them not. I am thinking about fixing some of the fireplaces of a brownstone. I have read many opinions but I couldn't find an answer to some of my questions:
– Anybody has purchased the stainless steel liner and installed it with the help of a good mason instead of going to a 'chimney contractor'?
– What kind of damper do you recommend?
– Where did you purchase the firebricks and the refractory cement?
– Any recommendation about the best stainless steel liner company?
– Apparently the 'chimney contractors' recommend the round stainless steel liner but the companies that sell liners are recommending the square chimney liners to reline a brownstone chimney because originally were square and they say that you shouldn't make it much smaller... Anyway, the more you investigate the more you know the amount of choices that contractors don't even tell you about.
– Any additional recommendation?
– The last question: Anybody has ever asked a permit to the DOB to fix a fireplace or to reline a chimney?

Chimney Cleaning - Messy?
We are getting our parlor fireplace chimney flue (steel lined prior to last winter) cleaned. How much mess/dust/ash should we expect from the cleaning process? Should we cover furniture & move rugs etc?
Anything else to expect?
Thanks!

Raising your chimneys
I would like to know if anyone has info about the requirements of a new builder to the adjacent property owner when they are building higher and the existing chimneys must be raised to above the new, taller roofline

Woodburning Stove Installation
Does any have a recommendation of a person to make necessary changes to fireplace flue to vent a woodburning stove through the existing chimney? The flue would have to be accessed ablove the mantel and the damper removed and stove pipe installed. I know that the flue is good. I know its hot outside, but winter is comming and I assume fireplace work gets busy in the fall.

Rainwater in Chimney?
Just a theoretical question: What happens with rainwater, which gets into chimney? I have old disconnected chimney. On the first floor it is cemented out. But the top if the chimney is opened to elements. Does it mean, that this flue is full of water?

Chimney cover
Hi everyone,
My coop is having an issue with the ugly, new chimney that was installed. I was wondering what people would suggest to cover the chimney. Can anyone recommend a company that does such work?
Thank you for your help with this!

New chimney liner
We had a crisis at the almost-complete renovation today where the flue got clogged up the boiler backed up and smoke billowed through the house. Apparently some of the old terra cotta chimney liner had fallen off, blocking the flue. We had a chimney guy snake a camera, he said it was clear now but he showed me where the liner was falling off and said we had to put in a new stainless steel liner and it would cost approx. $5500.
Has anyone confronted this problem? Did you take care of it immediately or can it be deferred? Can you recommend a chimney company for a second price?
