Sanding wood floor
We want to remove old carpet and sand original wood floor soon. Please recommend your favorite floor man who did excellent job. And how much will it be? 1000sf and 2 stairs. Around $2000?
Comments
I wouldn't recommend the guys that just did our floors. They weren't bad, just not great. They charged us $1700 for 1000 sq ft on two levels.
Hope that helps.

Momo, I had sanding, stain, and varnish done last year for $2.20 a square foot, not sure what they would have charged for sanding only though. The guy we used was a friend of our handyman who did it after his shift at another floor shop so I wouldn't know how to contact him now, but Verranzano Flooring seems to be recommended a lot on this site. Hope that helps.

We had Verrazano do rooms in several apts...they were really nice to work with, guys fixed extra little pieces e.g around radiator where they were missing without my even mentioning it. Do you mean 2 staircases or 2 stairs? If it's 2 staircases it'll be more than 2000$.

I can recommend the guy who did our floors. His name is Hajji. He did our old apartment (delicate old oak parquetry) & then we got him back to do our full 4 floors of mesquite. He is a nice guy, totally honest/takes care to do a good job, fair price (I think $2/sq ft for sanding & finishing) and has a love of wood.
His cell is 917 817 6791.

The guy who did my floors (sanded, stained and varnished) did a pretty good job and it was around $1.30 per square foot including the materials. He was easy to work with and when I didn't like a couple of spots, his guys came again and fixed it. He didn't ask for a penny until the job was complete and I was satisfied.

US Wood Floors laid new floors as well as sanded/stained for me, so I can't break out a price. Richard and his crew are terrific: honest, reliable, hard workers, reasonably priced, plus they cleaned up a horrific mess another worker made on the newly done floors (spilled and puddled poly, dried to a crispy finish with wood dust mixed in). Contact info is Richard Fiallos, 646-739-7535.

I used Old Oak Flooring, Sean was thorough and his work was excellent. His price was considerably lower than Verazanno, which I know is well-regarded. I don't seem to have Sean's number, although I know I found him here on Bstoner...

Yes, I meant one apt 1000sf and 2 staircases. I called 4-5 floor guys and got quotes. It was $1600-$2900. What a difference! Thank you for your info!

I used a guy named Steve, I don't think his company has a name - he's out of Staten Island. I surprised my wife with by sanding off black paint and double bleaching our oak floors - she said it feels like she's walking on leather and it does. They look amazing. He used Bono floor sealer, it's a green product but it costs about $100 a gallon.
The cost all depends on the talent and sealing product that your floor guys uses.
Steve's number is 917-567-7981, he's a little hard of hearing and he won't be the cheapest but his work is some of the best I've seen.
Good luck,

$1.30 per sf. for sanding, staining and poly? That is good price. I paid $2.00 per sf just for sanding ,1 coat of sealer and 2 coats of poly. who ever you hire, just remember you will only get what you pay for. Good luck.
