Appliance Stores in Brooklyn
Two Questions:
1) Can anyone recommend a good store in Brooklyn at which to purchase a refridgerator?
2) Does anybody have experience with the Electrolux brands? I believe they are relatively new in the States. Are they decent?
Thank you in advance for any insight you have.

Biff, anywhere you purchase will deliver. PC Richard on Atlantic or the HD in Manhattan (which has a huge selection of nice stuff, not like other HDs)

Find the model you want at any store & then phone Frank at General Bldg. Appliances - 800 336 6694

I second what Dave said. I bought most of the appliances for my house, including a refrigerator/freezer at PC Richard on Atlantic. I also like Gringer & Sons in Manhattan (gringerandsonsinc.com).
Electrolux used to make the best vacuums (I inherited my mother's and it's a work horse); now, however, their vacuums are made by Hoover or Whirlpool, and the quality has really declined. I don't know anything about their other appliances, but I fear you may be paying for the name. Check out Consumer Reports.

This is not in Brooklyn but:
Krups
11 West 18th Street, NYC
Very knowledgeable staff.

brought fridge, stove and dishwasher at pc richards on atlantic, they also take away the old. no experience with electrolux though.

What DeLepp said, too. Delivery was great - no trouble navigating narrow stairs or under the stoop, and they took away all the old appliances, which is a great service.

ET, I did my whole kitchen, including appliances, from Krups when i bought my first manhattan condo. They were grat to work with.
Is the store still that really small cramped one??? Loved it. Who was that really loud obnoxious woman who worked there??? She was the best!!!!!! Complete opposite of the heavy set guy (I think he's gone) who was so laid back!!!!

do not be fooled by the brand name. most appliances come out of a few factories. See consumer reports below.

I have the whole setup from Fridgadre (sp?) by Electrolux. They have a nice professional series for like 1/2 of the other brands. Bought it all at Best Buy.

I also had a good experience at PC Richards. I bought a washer and dryer there two weeks ago. Mind you, I had to pay for the hook up, but they stacked it for me, hooked it up and made sure they were working (they also hooked up a gas dryer which a lot of places won't do). They also could deliver it a lot sooner than say some place like Best Buy were I would have had to wait about two weeks.

No, Dave, her name was Lola. She was a showgirl.

Try EBA Wholesale. They were recommended to me when I was doing my gut renovation. They beat all the prices I was quoted by Sears, Lowes, Home Depot and AJ Madison (online). I called them and talked to someone live...their number is on the following website...
I also went to the store, it's a little cheesy looking but they have almost all the brands. I bought my SubZero there when they sold that brand (do not think they carry them anymore).
Best of Luck,
Allan S.

For what it's worth, we like our Samsung (similar configuration to your picture). Got it at Lowes Brooklyn without any hassle.
Also, good JD Power review:

Consider Gringer & Sons, which is not in Brooklyn, but still worth it for a price comparison. They are on 1st Ave & 1st St. and their sales people are pretty knowledgeable. Also, they matched prices and have a good reputation.
I see CGar also recommended them. They've been around a long time.

If you go for a Samsung (they are really nice) you can probably get a better deal on Ebay. I almost purchased a Samsung for another home I have in NJ. After extensive search I found some ebay appliance sellers had the best deals.

I too recommend EBA; my favorite salesman is a guy named (or nicknamed) Hawk. Their asking prices are usually slightly lower than anyone else's but, on top of that, you usually can bargain for an even lower price.

We recently bought an Electrolux 30" stainless steel, free-standing gas range and matching over-the-range microwave and love them so far. We got them from PC Richards on 14th Street, which has a really big showroom and the service was great too -- I don't think the models we bought we on display at the Atlantic Ave store if that makes a difference for you. We also bought a Liebherr fridge from Gringer & Son and didn't have a great experience with them.

I recently bought a Frigidaire gas range from AJ Madison. Their website (www.ajmadison.com) was easy to navigate, and I found a lot of affordable options. Once I purchased the range it was shipped the next day, since AJ Madison is in Brooklyn. The service men were polite and courteous. I was a bit uneasy with buying a big appliance online, but I got over it and glad I did. The range works great!! So, overall I would recommend AJ Madison when shopping for appliances in BK.

Thanks to everyone who has commented up to now. This is all excellent and very useful information. It's much appreciated.

A few points:
1. Often major brand appliances sold at Lowe's ro HD are manufactured more cheaply than seemingly identical models sold in appliacne stores. Be careful.
2. Electrolux bought out Frigidaire a few years ago. I don't know if in the US they are replacing the Frigidaire name with Electrolux, or using both brands to support different price points. But chances are, even if the price points and bells and whistles are different, it may be the same stuff underneath. Most of our stuff is Frigidaire or GE (but not Profile). Everything holding up fine.
3. No one mentioned Drimmer's. Anyone buy from them lately?

I bought a range from AJ Madison. Worked out really well, got delivered to my 2nd floor apartment in about 3-4 days after ordering. Used to order from Krups, but now apparently Mr. Krup works at AJ Madison now (which works out even better). They're out in Borough Park, FYI, if you don't want to order online.

I wouldn't recommend trying to purchase an appliance in person at the AJ Madison showroom, although it might be OK buying from them on line. My wife and I went there ayear ago, looking for a new range. After trying for over a half hour to get a salesman to look up from his computer and help us we gave up, left, and went to our old favorite, EBA, which turned out to have much lower prices.
AJ Madison's showroom is beautiful, but they appear to have absolutely no interest in over the counter sales. FWIW the AJ Madison website IS an excellent research tool.
We STILL haven't found a 36" range we like more than our old Caloric, but that's another story.

biff, try Appliance Showroom right across from Costco. That's where we bought all our stuff. Look at Liebherr, German stuff, decent price (can't help re Electrolux).
I HATE PC Richards.
