Help Me Clean Out Estate
Hello,
I need to clean out an estate that is full of tons of furniture, books, etc. An auctioneer sold anything with any value and now we need to get rid of the leftovers, unfortunately with no time to make donations to different organizations. Does anyone have recommendations? Thanks.

Thanks for your help! It's beyond stoop sale or craigslist - we need an estate liquidator or junk remover or moving company who takes care of this kind of thing, ideally someone who would be willing to pick through and resell anything that could be recycled/reused, like the old paperbacks, etc. The apartment needs to be completely vacant when my current lease ends, but the old owners did not vacate prior to closing.

Check with Goodwill or the Salvation Army. Also maybe some of the local churches that have thrift stores.

paperbacks don't have a lot of resale value. what about dropping them off to the local library? that way you don't have to bring them very far. housing works is pretty good too, they can probably pick up stuff as long as it's in decent condition and loose items are boxed up.

Salvation Army does pick ups - you have to schedule with them.
Tag sale? That way, you don't have to lug anything around, people will come to you.

Maybe google estate sale in Brooklyn to find the name of someone? We did this in California. There are people whose job it is to run estate sales, they take 10 percent of the proceeds, they get rid of everything. House will be empty when it's done.

Call Eddie Hibbert, 917-327-2661. He owns the architectural salvage place on Greene and Grand. He does this and would do a good job for you.
