Clogged (brand new) dishwasher?
Hi all. I just moved into a new place, with a brand new dishwasher. The building is a pre-war condo conversion... so the plumbing is all new, as are the appliances.
My roommate used the dishwasher yesterday, and this morning we noticed an inch or two of water just hanging around on the bottom, not draining. I've removed the filter and whatever else I see there, but no action.
Any advice? Is there something I need to know about first-time dishwashing? Could it be the plumbing? (Everything else works fine, plumbing-wise, in my apt and the building as a whole, as far as I can tell...)

check if there's packing material in the drain/filter.

Some machines leave an inch of water on purpose - look at your Use & Care book. But I'd check for obvious clogs too - again, look in the book to see maintenance & cleaning.

Make sure they fully removed the knock out plug where it connects to the disposal/drain.

Thanks Arkady - never thought that that might be on purpose. I'll double-check.

Some dw require the drain hose be hung on a high loop, at least 18" above the floor. Without it, you won't get proper drainage. I know because we had a sitting water problem with the dw that was installed in our rental unit. Ended up paying $90 for a tech to come and tell us that the handyman who installed the dw failed to do it properly --although the tech acknowledged that this installation error is a pretty common mistake. In addition to the above, check your breaker panel. We once experienced the same problem and found that the diswasher's internal heating element was tripping the breaker. So it would do the prewash and then kick off when the hot water was called for on the wash cycle leaving the prewash water undrained.
