Window Identification
Does anyone know how to identify the brand of windows I have?
I can't find any identifying marks anywhere on them and need to get replacement/repair parts for the spring balances. The caps at the top of the balances have cracked and broken off in several windows.
I'm attaching a picture of some of the details of the popped sashes, in case anyone has the same windows.

sometimes the only identifying marks, dates will be between the two pieces of glass that make up the insulated window, blind embossed on the silver part that you can see in the upper right corner of your pictures. Not all have the marks but many do.
Seems to be an industry standard to never repair but replace though.

There's a window place on Classon between Park Ave and the BQE call United Window. They have a lot of parts for replacement windows.

Spiral balances are standard, no matter who the maker was. Try Frank at New Image Glass & Window Service, 347-248-5784.

These look a lot like the Marjo aluminum windows I had installed in the '70s. That company has been gone for years but, as others have pointed out, the balances are a standard item. I use a company called Art Windows for repairs.

Hi... OP here.
Actually, I think the balances are OK. It's the plastic caps at the top corners of the window sash that have cracked under the pressure and popped off...
Does anyone know if this is something I can fix myself?
I have around 8 windows with this problem so I'd like to keep the per-window cost down.

I'd pop out one of the windows & take it to a window place - there are several good ones - I use Brooklyn Window & Door.

I had a very good experience with Windows We Are, 9110 5th Ave
Brooklyn, NY 11209 (718) 836-8083. I just took in the broken parts and they identified them and then took me into the shop and gave me a tutorial on how to replace them. I did it myself with the right parts.

These are the string pulley type... See those little silver clips on both sides of the frame, pull it so it swings out and that will catch the spring and hold it in place. Then you can remove the window. You can find the manufactures date for your windows as Modsquad has pointed out.
You will need to bring in the spring to measure the correct length. This length can differ from window to window. The plastic caps are replaceable. They break when the spring breaks and slams it.
