When is trick or treat time?
Hi brownstoners,
I live in Carroll Gardens, where many of the Place blocks go nuts with the holiday decorations.
Since halloween is on the weekend for 2009, i'm considering handing out treats from the stoop, for the first time ever.
When I was a kid, no self-respecting little ghost or goblin would make the rounds before it got dark, but maybe it's not like that anymore.
Can anyone give me advice on what time do the trick or treaters come out?
Or am I out of my mind, and will I get mugged by mobs of out-of-control teenagers?

When I lived in Carroll Gardens 15 years ago, Halloween was an all day event on the Sunday preceeding the actual Halloween date. (Or was it Saturday?) Court Street storeowners would hand out candy to all the costumed kids; and there were a lot of costumed kids! It was kind of a Court Street Halloween parade.
Does this still take place?
Because Halloween is on a Saturday this year, perhaps there'll be a Court Street Halloween parade on Saturday the 31st?
Ask your neighbors.

yeh everyone still goes around to all the stores on court street. as for the side streets...if you live on a block that has tons of decos, chances are you'll have kids to give treats to.
as for the streets that dont do anything (like mine) the kids dont bother unless they know you're into it. i think they do a parade in cobble hill by the park on clinton street.

The teenies usually make the rounds before dark.

About 3:30-4pm. Be out on the stoop as the little ones are unlikely to ring the bell. By around 5:30 the little one are mostly done. By 6pm they're taller than I am and I don't answer the door.
