Living in Red Hook.... Should I?

So, I may have an offer to live in a great place in Red Hook, but I'm a bit nervous about the whole subway public transportion situation.

Can anyone give me the pros and cons?

Thanks!

If you're nervous about the public transportation issue, it's every bit as bad as you think.

Go from work to the potential apartment via subway/us/walking (all of which are probably required). See what it's like. Red Hook is definitely in the middle of nowhere when it comes to public transportation.

Granted, if you work in Lower Manhattan you can take the water taxi from Ikea so it might not be so bad.

understand that your friends will never to rarely come visit you in red hook.... make sure this "great place" isn't on a truck route..... and you will most certainly need a bicycle. PS - the ikea shuttle to wall street ain't free anymore

Buy a car!

It isn't that bad. The B61 runs very regularly in the morning rush hour and gets you to many trains in downtown BK in no time. And now that the meth clinic is closed it is no longer full of quite so many colorful characters. The B61 back to Red Hook can be a wait as it trundles all the way from LIC. The MTA are supposedly cutting the route in half, which would mean the bus would start from downtown BK, and thus be right on schedule. I ride the bus and then walk a few blocks to the 4/5, and door to door to my job near Union Sq is about 25 minutes. If the place is near Summit St or 9th St, you have the option of walking to the F train. The neighborhood is already crawling with visitors and hipsters on bikes every weekend, so I shouldn't worry too much about people not wanting to visit.

one time recently, I took the bus from Ikea up to Atlantic / Clinton and it took just under 45 minutes. FUGGGGGGGETABOUTIT

Did I read somewhere that you currently live in Manhattan? Honestly, I would not choose Red Hook as your first bklyn nabe.....

as alternative consider bike to work in lower Manhattan. it could be faster then public transport.
