Cost to Fabricate Granite
We are thinking about purchasing a slab of granite at an incredible price. We would have to find a fabricator to do the template and cut it - we have someone that could install it. Can anyone recommend someone and does anyone have any idea what the cost would be for such a service? Trying to figure out if its even worth going this route.

Hey, try George at Coral - 347 451 5589. Depends on the size and what you're doing, but i was in the same boat as you. for an U shaped counter setup that included undermount sink and overhang for island, i spent around $2k.

I'm an architect and I recommend Foro Marble for all my stone work. Incredible customer service.
Typically, they purchase the stone and you pay them for the stone and the fabrication, so I couldn't speak to the cost of having them do fabrication on stone you've purchased.

Believe it or not, I found it on ebay. The only catch was that you have to pick it up yourself in PA = about a three hour drive.

Not trying to throw cold water on your hot find, but. . .
What kind of granite is this?
What makes you think the price is "incredible"?
How big is the slab?
Will you have navigation issues with it, once you get it to back to your site in Brooklyn?
How do you intend to transport it back to Brooklyn?
Do you know how to check for cracks, fissures and other possible slab defects? (All are not immediately obvious)
Just a couple of additional considerations besides the matter of trying to find a fabricator is neither the supplier nor installer.

this seems like a stupid idea...you have no idea of the quality of the slab that you are buying, and will pay endlessly to get it made into your counter top..kind of like saying that you have a great deal on copper and want to make your own pipes

Could be stupid, could be smart like a fox. I'm assuming if the original poster doesn't like the piece of granite, he doesn't have to buy it, and s/he's only out a day trip during foliage season. I bought salvaged granite and had to have it "fabricated." (Ok, CUT). Some stone people wouldn't cut stone they hadn't sold, but I found a place to do it for $400. Not $2K. I think the company's name was Stone Werks. Absolutely no regrets!
