Clinton Hill/Bed Stuy

I am thinking of buying a house in Clinton Hill or Bed Stuy but am not that familiar with the neighborhoods. Are there certain areas in those neighborhoods to avoid?

walk around the hood yourself. buying is still huge $$$ so rely on your own eyes and feet to tell you where is good vs no good

Why do I smell a flame war brewing? M4L is correct. Get out there and do the research in person rather than relying on highly subjective personal opinions.

In Bed Stuy, get off the A train at the Utica Ave stop and go out the exit for Fulton PARK (not Fulton Street) and then head up Stuyvesant Ave and check out all the east west streets from malcolm X to about 4-5 blocks further east (towards Nostrand).

What's your budget??????

Sorry, meant further WEST towards Nostrand

projects near tow pond are scary. I feel uncomfortable walking down the Myrtle or Washington Ave at night as well.

Supermarkets do not sell good cheese and Washington Ave subway station is not good.

I personally like BS better than Clinton Hill for a couple of reasons. BS feels more like a community because of the brownstones and lack of multi-family apartment buildings. Also, we used to live in CH on the G line which I'm convinced is the worst train in the transit system. If you want to take the subway home after rush hour, you could wait up to 30 minutes and those stations are desolate sometimes. Lastly, depending on where you would look in CH, you will notice that the public housing there are like little cities - they are HUGE!! The public housing in BS doesn't have the same presence that it does in CH.

Good luck and like everyone else is telling you, get out there and walk around to see what feels right for you.

In addition to my last post - prices are lower in BS than in CH, too. On the negative side of BS, there is a lack of amenities but if you have a car it won't be a problem. I think this is changing though and the area will be more competitive in the next couple of years.

I personally like both areas, however you didnt mention Crown Heights. I think you should atleast consider CH.

All the best
