City Dump
I'm cleaning out all the junk in my basement and wondering if anyone knows where I can bring it to? Do we have a city dump in Brooklyn?

The DSNY closed the public dumps some time back. They make limited residential bulk pickups and maintain restricted public dropoff sites for specific kinds of waste:

you have two choices...put it out 5 bags at a time on bulk collection day (and believe me they will count pillows and a couch as separate items), or hire a private carter which is fairly expensive..why do you think contractors have to charge so much for demolition?..
