Cats in the House

My two cats until recently would stay out 20+ hrs/day but now have decided it's too cold and damp. Cat litter time.

Anyone uses flushable litter? What brand? And is it likely to clog old brownstone pipes (there's the 'stoner connection)?

World's Best is excellent. Friends of mine in same kind of old house as mine have flushed it for years - I've been afraid to. It clumps nicely & is easy to do "treasure hunts" in. Doesn't track & isn't dusty except one bag once in a while towards the bottom. Expensive but you don't go through it as quickly as others.

I'm with Arkady- its great stuff. Works really well. Made from corn cobs.

I have 3 cats and I just went through extensive experimenting of cat litter because one of them got bronchitis/asthma and I thought it might have been from Natures Miracle's (another corncob brand) tiny dust-like granules. So, I needed to find a litter that would satisfy my cats, my vet and my laziness/cleanliness. The absolute best (paws down), is Feline Pine pellets WITH the strainer-style litter box that you can purchase on their site. No tracking, no smell, no major cleanups, economical. I'm a new fan. They say you can use the used litter that falls through the holes (sans the poop) as mulch.

Having used both types of litter, I would go with World's Best. Feline pine is a cool concept, but has a weird sour smell, to me. Both are flushable, though. We discovered World's Best when it was required after our cat had radioactive iodine treatment (to make sure everything radioactive was being removed). My cats don't use their box often enough for any health issues to have sprung up. In general, though... flushing anything other than what is absolutely necessary into the water system is not a good thing.

When it comes to flushable litter, less is more. You can flush the daily/twice daily scoopings, but don't try flushing when you change the litter completely, that will block old pipes. I live in an apartment building so I am obliged to discard my cats' litter with the daily trash. Another thing you have to be aware of, particularly with indoor/outdoor cats, is that their stools may contain parasites that are harmful to marine mammals if the sewerage system doesn't deal with them effectively (and I don't believe it does). I've used Feline Pine and Yesterday's News in the past and they were both pretty good (using Scoop Away clumping litter now).

Go for World's Best, I flush the poos and bag the pee pees - the pee pees are sometimes too big to go down in one flush.

Thanks, all. Off to 5th av pet shop to see what they carry.

Oh, and if you also have a dog, beware: World's Best apparently tastes DELICIOUS.

i have 2 cats and use World's Best BUT i find that they track it all over the place. we have a dark couch and there's beige paw prints everywhere. Its the best clumping though by far.
still searching for the perfect litter.

CGM - Put a piece of artificial turf under the box - works like a door mat when they get out.

cnu, I wouldn't flush any of that stuff... scoop and throw in garbage. Why risk it?
