Trying Again - Countertop

I'd like to ask Brownstoners for some advice on removing stains from honed granite countertops. I have a black honed countertop with some stains which are a slightly lighter color. I am not sure what they are. I would appreciate any advice on removing stains from granite. Thanks.

This site has great customer service-- I called about my limestone and was able to get advice of proper care. I'm happy with the products I ordered. On my counters the lighter rings/spots are acid stains but granite may be different.

I'd also suggest taking your comment to the home forum at Garden Web.

are you sure it is granite? granite shouldn't stain. a honed surface isn't rough enough to catch "dirt". it could be a natural mineral variation in the stone or what you have is a porus material like limestone or marble.

Thanks, it is definately granite. Black. The fact that it is honed might have made it more vulnerable to staining. I'll go to the Stonecare site and Garden web site. Thanks.

you could try a poultice of hydrogen peroxide and baking soda...look it up on the internet.. the application that i remember was for marble, but it may work for granite
