Tempur-pedic Mattress

I tried searching to see if theres any old topics on this and could not find any.

We are looking to buy a mattress and my wife wants a tempur-pedic mattress. I have to admit it feels really great but the only downside is we can only afford the lower end model (Advantage). There are also a lot of claims that you can buy the same bed (just without the brand) for half the cost; such as bob-o-pedic, costco nova, the list goes on. What is your take on this?

I know someone with a bob-o-pedic and loves it. I don't know for sure that she actually tested it out against the true tempur-pedic so I can't speak to comparisons.

Well, I have a conventional innerspring mattress, but I LOVE that bob-o-pedic name :-)

I have a tempur-pedic mattress and love it. It's been about 8 years old now and it's still like new.

A friend purchased an off-brand, low end tempur-pedic and had to return it due to a bad, obnoxious plastic smell that would not dissipate.

If you must buy an off-brand, make sure there is a return policy in the event you don't like it.

We tested the Tempurpedic at Sleepy's but found the 2k price tag rather steep. On a whim, we purchased a similar (I believe it was non-branded) mattress on Overstock.com for around $300. That was more than a year ago and we are still very happy with the mattress - it is extremely comfortable (we both have bad backs) and best of all you don't feel any movement if your partner is tossing and turning on his/ her side.

They off-gas (smell) for up to a month, noticeably, and far longer than that in reality.

Visco-elastic foam is temperature sensitive--so the mattress is very different depending on the ambient room temp and as your body warms up the foam.

I could almost live with the above, but the reality is that many people including myself find them hot and sweaty.

Your results may vary.
