Stencil Rec?

Stencil Rec?

Has anyone personally done....or does anyone have a decorative ceiling painting recommendation? I'm looking to have some light stencil work done in the great room

Comments

www.mbhistoricdecor.com has some stencils.

www.bradbury.com for incredible wallpaper and crown/ceiling paper as well

Thanks DIBS. Do you think this is something I should do myself?

I've done it on walls, I'd have to say that a ceiling is going to be much harder. I've only done primitive stuff like most of the MB decor 18th century stencils. Not hard at all really.

If you want to invest some more money, you can order the real plaster ceiling lacework from a place in Chicago. They use real plaster and even use the original catalogs of all the stuff. i'll find the link.

www.decoratorssupply.com

Go to the catolog on plaster and start with page 21

And I wouldn't attemp putting up the Bradbury wallpaper either. I've done precut, prepasted wallpaper with excellent results but that stuff is neither. You need a professional hanger.

You always pay a premium for anything well hung.

JESUS!

...Thanks DIBS for blowing everyone else's Christmas.

Excellent. The plaster will give the design some depth.....and the ceiling the interest I'm looking for.

Thanks.

Sopme neighbors of mine did their ceiling but they were both artists. They set up scaffolding & it was a gorgeous job but difficult even for them.

There is a company called Modello Designs that makes decorative masking patterns (one time use stencils) for ceilings. Your photo looks like one of theirs. I absolutely love their stuff, and plan on using a ceiling Modello or two when I get to that point in my endless (now stalled) reno.

You'd need scaffolding, but it would be doable by two people, according to this story linked below:

This is the story of a huge stenciled ceiling project which I am in awe of:

Hope this is inspiring!

I hung my own Bradbury. After paying for the paper, I couldn't afford to hire someone to hang it.

Nice photo! Great info, I am hoping to do a little stenciling on my ceiling too...after the house is habitable.

Thanks everyone for the advice!

I'm torn between stencil work and plaster ceiling design...I'll keep you all posted.

Local plasterers may have items in stock that they have made previously from molds and might be less expensive than Decorators Supply. Find the guy who did the TOH in Prospect Park. I'm sure there are others too. There may also be a suppply of plastic alternatives that will be cheaper and you would never be able to tell the difference.
