Stair Part Needed
Any suggestion on where I can find a couple of these? It's used to connect the bottom of a handrail to a side wall in order to provide lateral stability. It appears to be made of forged iron. Currently, the section of the handrail that is missing the piece isn't stable. Any suggestions for a soucre either original or new, or a way to improvise would be helpful. Thanks.

Heights Woodworking repaired my stairs and put in 2 new ones for me. They have a large walk-in factory, call first. I'm pretty sure they would just sell one.

If HW doesn't have it you could try an iron monger such as Ricardo's who could fabricate it using your one as a template or look at yesterday's fence thread for other suppliers.

Looks to me like a hand crafted item, not a standard, stocked part.

When we needed to add these to sections of our stair, my dad made them with a pipecutter, a hacksaw, some fine grit sandpaper and 3/4" copper pipe. Cut the pipe to the full unbent length, hacksaw a notchout to create a flatspot for the screwholes on both sides, bend the flat spots to the right angles, hammer fully flat, drill out, sand with fine grit. You can then age them with salt/vinegar/water mixture- put on a rag and wipe down. It'll give it a nice blue/green patina. You will have a stong and nice looking stair stabilizer.
