Try Nationwide, they are a premier Property & Casualty insurer and offer a comprehensive renter's policy. You should not pay more than $300 Annual Premium for a typical policy. You can rider individual items of value onto a policy, however this will drive up your premium. The typical policy will set fairly low limits on contents. Keep in mind that typical renter/ co-op/condo policies offer standard replacement value- or the value of items as depreciated over time of ownership. If you are seeking a full replacement policy-this will be more costly. The major component of the policy is the Liability portion, along with some accident medical expense. A deductible is also typical on these plans. Ask questions of the agent, if you have an alarm or a related security device in your building or apt. a discount can be applied. Good Luck!

Liberty has always worked for me - they made it super easy when we were renting.

My renters insurance is from State Farm (I think... they have the red logo?) And I just renewed a few weeks ago, it was $125 for bare minimum coverage (no extra coverage). For an additional $50, I could have gotten "Identity Theft Protection" as well.

state farm gets my vote.
if you take a higher deductible you pay less premiums. don't forget to ask.

If you are close to the water (Shore Road area), most carriers will not insure you. I have 2 or 3 (depending on your floor) and they are very affordable. Please call for a quote.
