Floor Numbers for code violation
Hi, we must put numbers in the hall to clear a violation. What do you put on the "ground floor" basement? --Entry under stoop, goes out to yard etc. What goes on the 'Parlor' floor?
Comments
B - for garden level, 1 for parlor, 2 above that.

It could go either way.
In our buildings the ground/garden floor is 1, parlor is 2...

Our building is numbered in conformance with our CO, which is as Pete described. OP, you can check your CO by going to the DOB Building Information Search site, typing your address and then clicking on "View Certificates of Occupancy." Number your floors to match the CO:

That's an excellent question. It is very rare that I'm not positive of the answer to a real estate related query.
If the garden level is a legal, I'd probably start with "1" on the garden level.
That way if there was a fire, or some other emergency, the "authorities" would know to check downstairs for signs of life.
If somebody saw a "B" or "G" on the wall, they'd have no clue what it meant. . .

How about the way they do it in Europe?
"0" for the first habitable floor (ground floor/Garden/basement)
"1" for the Parlor, etc.
