ADT or Other System?
I nearly threw the ADT sales guy out of my home. He was arrogant, wouldn't listen to my questions and answer them simply, and frankly all in all just left me with a bad impression. He also wouldn't even give me a written estimate - stated ADT doesn't do that. Which sounds ridiculous to me.
I would like a simple security system to monitor doors and windows on my lower two floors, and maybe a couple of motion sensors on the upper floors. I guess fire protection would be good too though I was mostly focused on security.
Anyone have any decent (or better) alternatives? I need to find someone soon since I wanted the system installed while I am renovating.

I am very happy with Protection One.

ADT is horrible. You're lucky you found that out before you signed up.

In the trade ADT stands for Another Dumb Technician. I just finished a small project that Gorilla Security was on and they were great. I have also heard good things about American Security Systems or my usual standby of AFA.
No matter what company you use I recommend you have a Honeywell system installed. In my opinion they are the most reasonably priced, user friendly, and easy to service system available. Alot of companies (including ADT) will try and sell you on their proprietary system that no other company can service. So you are stuck with them. Also make sure the installation technician gives you the installer programming code.

Was the company named "Advanced Protection Services", perchance?
They are an ADT representative locally, and frankly I had a nightmare with them as well.
Run. Run away from them.
Deal with ADT directly or find another company.

If you go with ADT ask for the tech named Valentine. He is a smart guy, lovely, polite - head and shoulders above some of the other techs they sent me in the past. A pleasure.

I used to have ADT services when I owned a second home on the Jersey shore. They were good and definitely gave me a written estimate before I signed up for them. For the entire 5 yrs I owned the house, I never had a problem with them.
Sorry to hear you had a bad experience with them; but I'm sure if you call the main # and tell them your experience, they will put you in contact with a rep who is honest and professional.
There are other security services available. I have friends who have contracted major companies (as ADT) as well as small privately-run companies. The only downside I've heard from those who have used the smaller companies is the often lack of customer service or the quick turnaround when something went wrong.
Good luck.

ADT is the worst. Their service sucks. Their equipment is cheap and flimsy. I totally agree with Brklyn Fire alarm Guy. I unfrtunately signed a long term cntract and am waiting fr it t run out so I can go elsewhere. Such a waste of money.

slomins has been fine....I've had them for 4 years. Just don't use them as your heating provider.
