Varrazano Flooring
I have heard many mentions of this company. We are looking to have some pretty major flooring done. Sanding/staining - replacing mis-matched wood/design left by previous owner...
Could I get some more specific feed back from those of you that have worked with Varrazano? Good and Bad. Thank you!

I've done work in houses where they have worked and have always been impressed with what I have seen - and I see a lot of wood floors.

i'm using scott krute for my floors right now. i'm very happy with how it's turning out.
he got nearly all of the previous owner's pet stains out and did a nice job patching and repairing the rest.
scott uses a dustless system, which i was pretty skeptical about, but i have to admit there's hardly any residual dust at all on the moldings and walls.

Had a terrible experience with Verrazano when I was living in Manhattan, and this was several years ago. A crew came in to replace sections of water-damaged parquet flooring and they made a hash of it - random pieces of wood were glued at odd angles to mimic parquet and it looked like a child's work. Had to call in another company to repair their work.
Friends in the North Slope recently had a good experience; other friends on the same block did not (poly bubbled and peeled). Seems like the quality depends a lot on which crew you get.

Agree with zb. Once they installed bamboo flooring, quick, priced reasonably and clean job. Refinishing tenant's apt was also good price, but held up very badly.

BTW -- "poly bubbled and peeled" has nothing to do with the company that did the screen and poly job.
It has all to do with applying poly to a floor that was previously waxed!

Nah, it was a Verrazano-installed new floor.

They worked on mom's floors who is elderly and also did a half ass job. I think they thought since she's elderly she would not complain. They only did one coat of poly which came off within 1 year in areas of high traffic. I would try Carlos Wood Floors, I've used them several times - most recently at an investment property in NJ. His number is 646-281-2659, tell him Allan recommended him.

We use Franklin Hardwoods for my company's floor work. They do absolutely top quality work at reasonable prices. They are based in CT but do all of our Brooklyn and Manhattan projects. Ask for Drew and tell him Tim at Think Construction recommended him.

I usually use really cheap Chinese guys for my rentals. The do a passable job only charge $1.25 per square foot. Go down to Chinatown and ask around. . .

Or get a quote from New York Flooring. They're not cheap, but they are very well trained.

IB - this is for a co-op we own so while I would NEVER say that cost is not a factor - the most important thing would be quality and life cycle of the work. We would not want to have to do additional work (unless we caused damage ourselves) down the road when we went to sell.

I have used Verrazano twice. I agree with the poster who says that the crew is what determines quality. Both times I have used them for refinishing a floor in a rental apartment (I own a three family) and the actual job has been fine. I don't think that I would use them in my own part of the house as there does not seem to be much quality control. You are left inspecting the job yourself.
V also is like a utility company. I had to take off work twice last week for them to come do the tenant's floor. Both times V promised to be on site within a two hour window in the morning. Both times they came at the end of the day, causing me considerable anxiety as the job had to be done in three day window before the new tenant moved in.
