Rug Cleaning
We have several area rugs and runners, some of them are very old and one is starting to tear. Last time we had them sent out for cleaning, one of them was damaged beyond repair. Does anyone know of a good place in Brooklyn to bring them?

If you can wait, the Macy's annual sale on rug cleaning is both good & reasonable. I think it's in January.

Artesana on 7th Avenue & 1st Street offers some kind of rug cleaning service. I haven't used them, but they sell all sorts of woven and tribal rugs and seem to know their stuff. I've bought several things there and have always found them to be very professional, so I'd have a lot of confidence that they use a quality cleaning service.
I've used Majestic Rug Cleaning in the Bronx with good success. They do pick-up and drop-off in Brooklyn every Thursday (and at least in Park Slope, they generally seem to arrive by about 10:00 or 11:00 a.m., so I've never had to wait around all day for them). They can also do patching and sewing of tears. You can reach them at 718-542-7474.

Delmont - amazing. were referred to me by an interior decorator. 1-212-513-7500. they can do a lot in your home without taking it.

I've used York Carpet in the past. They're not cheap, but they managed to salvage an antique carpet my cat had peed on -- no lingering odor to this day. And no fading or damage to the carpet from the cleaning. They were very professional and timely. I think they pick up in Brooklyn (not sure where they're headquartered).

There's a carpet place on atlantic between nevins and 3rd, can't remember the name but they did a rug for me. Decent job and pretty cheap $80 for a 10x5 (I think).

I use (and highly recommend) Long Island Carpet Cleaners, on Norman Avenue in Greenpoint. They pick rugs up, but give a 20% discount if you drop them off.

I also used Long Island Carpet Cleaners and was satisfied. I miss the old Cline's on Union Street, but you cannot turn back the clock.
