LIGHTBRIDGESTORY—13th Art Under the Bridge Festival-Sept 25, 26, 27

I invite the public to inspire me with personal stories while I portray the iconic Brooklyn Bridge for 3 days, 18 times, sunup to sundown. LightBridgeStory is a performance in a rhythm of painting, speaking, and looking, making watercolors at the water’s edge in Brooklyn Bridge Park, part of the Dumbo Arts Center’s 13th Art Under the Bridge Festival which takes place September 25, 26, 27 throughout the DUMBO neighborhood of Brooklyn.

“Spoken stories influence my work painting in a social context, so while I hear the experiences of others’ encounters with this bridge, I portray its architectural construction and materials in all weather and light, moods and memories. Speaking with the public as I work in an art practice that is performative – the Brooklyn Bridge is iconic, meaningful, mythic to each of us in a personal way – I paint transformation of what we see as each day wears on.

The Brooklyn Bridge has meaning for me as it does for others, a big hopeful feeling but also a thousand small memories: trudging home, running to work, it’s the bridge of many photos, kisses, icy winters we fell and got up, fireworks in July, and I think it’s important to listen to people over the three days of the 13th Art Under the Bridge Festival while painting, from the start of the stories to the finish of the light.
