Land Snails in the Garden
Something is eating up the leaves in my garden. I believe it to be land snails, as we found a few. What can I do to stop the destruction?

Probably slugs. Put a shallow can with some beer in it so that the lid is level with the soil. The slugs will go in and won't get out.

I have found success with a product called "sluggo". It is actually iron oxide granules so it is non-toxic to pets or humans but it takes care of slugs and snails for about 3 weeks a dose. I got it online.

The beer traps work. I've also had great success sprinkling coffee grounds around plant bases.

Where is it that they come from? With all the rain we have had this summer, I am now finding shells on my low roof.
For slugs, the beer definitely works. Not so sure snails will be attracted to it.
Years ago, I put a bunch of bowls of beer around for slugs, but our rowdy dog got there first and drank it all up. He go really tipsy and was running around like a mainaic...

Buy a bag of diatomaceous earth (crushed micro sea shells) and sprinkle around your plants. I found it to be the most effective, and it's not messy or toxic.

Another Sluggo fan here. Works like a charm.

Thank you all. I will try the beer first, (it's on hand), if that fails I will try out Sluggo.

Go for the Sluggo or ground shells. Beer traps are great at catching the little guys, but they also attract the big ones. I almost screamed when I saw my first leopard slug. I'm not exagerating- it was about 6 inches long. They're nocturnal and if I shine a flashlight into my Park Slope garden at night I can ususally see 4 or 5. They treated the beer traps like their local pub.
