How is it called?

Hi,

You know those windows which becomes one way when its hit by light? it's like a one way window which changes by where it is hit by light so in the morning time, when there is sun, inside the house you will see the outside but from the outside you won't see the inside of the house. at evening it changes. What is the professional name for these windows? Thanks.

umm the process you are describing (or trying to describe) is called polarization.

perhaps you're thinking of the glass used in Bar 89's (soho) infamous bathroom stalls? This frosting mechanism is known as “Smart Privacy Glass” which uses an electric charge to scramble liquid crystal polymers within the glass to shift, and prevent vision. http://www.inhabitat.com/2006/02/19/super-smart-privacy-glass/

^^ that's not what OP is describing because they mention sunlight as the catalyst. The glass at Bar 89 is, as you mentioned, operates by electricity. Totally 2 different technologies. You can buy polarized film and apply it to any glass surface. Application is similar to auto window tint.
