Energy Advisor?
I have a new old house out on Long Island that needs new everything, natch.
Would like to look into solar or wind or blah blah to help me into heaven and take advantage of the tax breaks. I dont know a thing about these systems and I'm wondering if there is a consultant who could come out and tell me what my options are for the house and what makes sense.
An architect would know this I suppose, but I'm not using an architect on this project so I'd love to get someone who specializes in this field. Someone who is different than the person who sells the stuff (the regular HVAC people). Thanks

There's a book called "Dreaming Green" which features many green homes including the authors' own home, which is an entirely green townhouse on the Upper West Side. I met and spoke to them once and they said that solar isn't possible for everyone due to tall buildings compromising direct sunlight. However there are TONS of other "green" things you can do that are eco-friendly and cost-effective. I know this is kind of circuitous route to go but the book's author is an architect and green building is his specialty. If you find the book, you find him.

You need someone to help you out with permits and such. LI is almost as bad as New York.

why are you not using an architect?
You need an architect and/or GC who can help you pull permits and such. If you are interested in more information you can email me at tmartin@wedesign-nyc.com we are a design build firm working in the tri-state area and are very interested in getting more involved with green energy projects.
Good luck,
Tricia
