Squeaky noise in Bk Heights?

Has anyone heard that whiny, sqeaky noise coming from somewhere in Brooklyn Heights? I don't hear it while I'm walking on the streets, but we hear it at night as we sleep with our wondows open. My BF thinks that it's a stationary flock of bats or birds that resides in the neighborhood, but I think it's some kind of ventilation fan. We live on Clark Street in a south-facing apartment, so I think the sound is coming from near Remsem or Joralemon.

Am I crazy?

Are there geese in the area? Their migration sometimes sounds like a rusted wagon wheel.

It really could be a fan on a roof of a larger building. That happened to me before in CA. A medical building on a commercial street a few blocks away had a huge ventilation thing on their roof and it made noise. Just as I was about to march in there to tell them to fix it, the noise went away.

turn on a fan and drown out the noise

if the noise is very steady, it could be one of those annoying "sonic" rodent deterrents...
