Sarah Jessica Parker to Slope?

Curbed is passing along the Post's speculation that SJP and MB are the mystery buyers of the Connelly/Bettany mansion on Prospect Park West.
Did SJP Buy Prospect Park West Mansion? [Curbed]

Comments

Makes sense - the market must have been very small for an 8.5 million dollar mansion in Brooklyn (which is amazing btw)

that stupid tour bus better not be making any detours thru the neighborhood. oh well, she will fit right in with all the other horse faces in the neighborhood. (yeah that was mean to say hahaha)

I think this is fine. As I said, I just hope she blends in and we don't have annoying paparazzi running around stalking her. I say welcome and enjoy the nabe

agree gemini.

There goes the neighborhood.

Posted by: Adam Incognito at July 2, 2009 1:09 PM

I heard this was bought by a young couple expecting their second child, kinda doesn't sound like SJP to me...

Posted by: WTbound at July 2, 2009 2:33 PM

Why aren't there any bathroom and kitchen pics????

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at July 2, 2009 2:57 PM

i think she'd be more suited in a carriage house. and who will her NEIGHbor's be? (yes i stole both of those jokes from another website talking about this) but i had to import them here

Posted by: PitbullNYC at July 2, 2009 3:00 PM

this is a young couple expecting their 2nd child, but they ended up with twins from the surrogate. we have other famous people in the slope dont we? like charles schumer. or would she be the most paparazzi-worthy sloper?

Maggie Gyllenhaal lives in PS. ive seen her jogging a few times.

definitely her

Posted by: bklyndodger at July 2, 2009 3:11 PM

A great big park across the street. Choice of private and public schools within walking distance, accessibility to two subway lines. Sounds like a good bet for MB and SJP's recently enlarged family.

One thing, I'm alarmed by the words "gut renovation." The woodwork is the charm of the place.

Posted by: BrooklynIsHome at July 2, 2009 3:12 PM

I too had to read twice when I saw it is supposedly undergong a "gut renovation." It looks mint as is, with a tasteful amount of great original detail.

Posted by: amt230 at July 2, 2009 3:17 PM

BrooklynIsHome:

I agree mostly, but I highly doubt they ride the subway anymore, so that point is moot. I'm sure they have either a driver or use car services exclusively.

Otherwise, I think it sounds like a fantastic move for their newly expanded family, and I have no doubt they are going to find PS to be a very friendly place to live for their family (and MUCH more privacy than in the West Village)

Assuming any of it is true, of course.

Posted by: 11217 at July 2, 2009 3:17 PM

i think when they mentioned gut renovation they were just talking about her tummy tucking surgery after squeezing those recent puppies out, not the actual mansion.

*rob*

Posted by: PitbullNYC at July 2, 2009 3:19 PM

I love how everyone is shocked that it says gut, but when Brownstoner highlighted the property, most people on this very board said it needed a complete overhaul inside....especially on the floorplan (which is probably what gut means in this case).

Posted by: 11217 at July 2, 2009 3:19 PM

Rob,

She didn't squeeze them out. Those two kids came to them via a surrogate.

Posted by: 11217 at July 2, 2009 3:20 PM

^^^^ she didnt do the squeezing

Posted by: goldie at July 2, 2009 3:20 PM

Yes but when insulting people, it's the thought that counts.

Posted by: Joe from Brooklyn at July 2, 2009 3:25 PM

hmm, that's interesting...i don't understand celebrities. i know for a fact that matthew broderick had an affair on SJP last summer because it was with a woman i am acquainted with. do you think SJP really didn't know or that appearance are that much more important to keep up? weird. i don't understand other people.

Posted by: bodhi_brooklyn at July 2, 2009 3:25 PM

I noticed the scaffolding going up yesterday morning after a run in the Park, but I didn't know anything about SJP and MB as possible buyers.

I doubt anyone would destroy the detail in that house, but who knows?

In the spring, that front yard is a field of beautiful tulips.

Posted by: dylanfan at July 2, 2009 3:26 PM

I've been in here (knew owners pre-famous people) and while it is in great condition in many ways I think the systems could all be redone. Also, the kitchen is in the basement level and even if you kept it there -- I wouldn't -- it looks very expensive but a little 1985ish. This house has a LOT of vertical living. If it was going to be my forever house, I'd think about adding an elevator.

Posted by: Ringo at July 2, 2009 3:27 PM

Bodhi,

I have a very good source who says MB is gay, so not sure what to believe.

Posted by: 11217 at July 2, 2009 3:28 PM

oh yeah i remember the whole broderick cheating thing. but didnt she get cheated on like all the time on the sex in the city show (didnt really watch it).

and i for one am sick of the amount of twins being made. there's going to be an entire generation in 20 years of nothing but twins! creepytown to the max. two of everyone? ugh the thought of having a twin is so scary. thank god my mother got pregnant the normal way. drunk and stoned on her 18th birthday lol

*rob*

Posted by: PitbullNYC at July 2, 2009 3:30 PM

11217. MB is SOOOOOO gay. i know some guys can be afflicted with gayface and have gayish mannerisms, but it's very rare, and often doesnt happen in the real world.

*rob*

Posted by: PitbullNYC at July 2, 2009 3:32 PM

Sjp, satc, cupcakes, and marc jacobs transformed the west village, and the old west village, so to speak, moved to park slope. The juggernaut continues. Sjp is a lovely individual. Dirty hipster, please dont let marc jacobs move to brooklyn, ok? Typing on iphone in maine.

Posted by: mopar at July 2, 2009 3:35 PM

lol rob. and 11217 - maybe he is bi and he is wandering...?
either way, it just seems like such a charade to be keeping up and i don't get who it is for.

that mansion is pretty awesome, no doubt. and i'm not trying to be a hater. i just don't get some people's lifestyles - unless it is agreed to by both people..which doesn't seem to be the case.

Posted by: bodhi_brooklyn at July 2, 2009 3:35 PM

Rob - freakin' hilarious.

Posted by: lapmax75 at July 2, 2009 3:41 PM

Most guys cheat, Bodhi. I think over 50% last survey I saw. Sucks, but boys will be boys.

She has more money than god and 3 kids (she always wanted a bunch of kids or so I heard) so she's probably happy as a clam.

Not bad for a girl who grew up uber poor in Ohio...

Posted by: 11217 at July 2, 2009 3:42 PM

11217, i don't know that most men or boys (as you say) cheat. i'd like to have more hope in humanity...sigh. what's the point of a relationship? why not just be single? i mean for him too. if he's not happy, then just leave. ah the joys of commenting on a blog -i can stroke the keys in a tone of judgment behind this big ole computer screen...

Posted by: bodhi_brooklyn at July 2, 2009 3:50 PM

i think it's closer to 90 % of men cheat 11217, 99% for gay men.

SJP and MB in PS?

Clutch pearls, I think I got out just in the nick of time.

I am a twin, you idiot. Twinhood is unbelievably wonderful.

Posted by: infinitejester at July 2, 2009 4:22 PM

PPW is very private too. Whenever I walk up to th park I'm amazed how still and quiet it becomes.

Thing is, if I had a huge house like that I'd never leave it - I'd just go form room to room.

I thought Jennifer Connolly still lived here??

Posted by: infinitejester at July 2, 2009 4:25 PM

stars are always attracted to NYC rather than LA bc of the lack of papparazzi...BK will be even better.
smart and have good taste in RE.

Posted by: big swinging nick at July 2, 2009 4:30 PM

Lots of mean girls on this post.

Personally, I am for it because famous people are good for property values. And hey, paparazzi deter street crime!

luckily, people like me who live in park slope cancel out whatever famous people add to property values.

cool uh

I understand why men cheat.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at July 2, 2009 5:03 PM

100% false. The owner works for google.

Posted by: superstooper at July 2, 2009 5:11 PM

Care to tell us how you know this for sure, superstooper?

Posted by: 11217 at July 2, 2009 5:32 PM

Actually the owner may not work for google but it is an internet person, I think. I know 99.9% that it is not SJP. I can't tell you why or how but I have a name. I'm googling

http://www.giantbomb.com/harken/94-1660/

Posted by: superstooper at July 2, 2009 5:44 PM

I mean internet or possibly gaming.

Posted by: superstooper at July 2, 2009 5:44 PM

I did find the connection that they gave for thinking it was SJP was pretty weak. Harken Pretty or whatever...

Posted by: 11217 at July 2, 2009 5:46 PM

dave,

the kitchen was bad.

Posted by: superstooper at July 2, 2009 6:15 PM

also, it's not a gut reno.

Posted by: superstooper at July 2, 2009 6:16 PM

Superstooper....Google people speculation is plausible. I remember meeting someone who was married to one of the early developers at Google (did gmail) and they were selling this really big loft on Crosby St. and bidding on a place on PPW. I assumed it was a much humbler place on PPW that was on the market at the same time, although I'm not sure why I did. (Combination of her being quite modest and my being jealous?) They had two kids and were young.

I wish I had developed gmail, because I think this is the best house in NYC.

Posted by: fuplease at July 2, 2009 6:58 PM

The first thing I heard was that it was a google person (from a very reliable source) but when I 'google' the name that I was given I get a Hungarian gaming company. Well, it's not SJP. That's for sure.

Posted by: superstooper at July 2, 2009 8:21 PM

love the sequence of above blogs.....is it really true to quality of house to quality of neighborhood to renovate or not to renovate to whether or not MB is gay>> i mean come on what's there to argue about? It's a nice house...they probably got an awesome deal...they're probably more time sensitive than price sensitive(they have kids and they're rich)...who gives a sh!t if they gut it..
(they're probably not giving me an invite to check it out anyway) BUT it sure makes recent sales/avg home price sales look great at Corcoran(and for egos of all bklynites esp homeowners)...also why does someone find it so f*cking "cool" to be seen with your kid(Steve Bushemi)....i've been with 2 kids for over 12 i'm not looking for a medal..and i also have it from a decent source that MB plays for BOTH teams...

Posted by: bklyn14 at July 2, 2009 11:27 PM

OT (almost) Does anyone agree with my assessment that SJP with her long face (the Brits have a word for it I won't mention) is quite un-attractive?

Posted by: cmu at July 3, 2009 8:58 AM

I think she's not traditionally pretty, but that's kind of the point. It's kind of creepy that most of Hollywood now looks exactly the same -- she doesn't. She looks like an actual person.

Posted by: Heather at July 3, 2009 10:44 AM

I doubt it's SJP. She's very Manhattan and that's not an insult or compliment just an observation. I agree cmu she looks like Mister Ed but her appeal has never been about her looks. Which is way preferable to succeeding only based on one's looks.

Posted by: traditionalmod at July 3, 2009 10:50 AM

Agreed, Heather! Because they all use the same plastic surgeons. That's not just a snarky joke, it's for real, that's why they look alike.

Posted by: traditionalmod at July 3, 2009 10:53 AM

Oh for me it's not so much as 'conventionally pretty' (I love Judy Davis for example, smashing gal) but find SJP quite off-putting; maybe it's five-too-many episodes of S&TC which I found boring and prdictable; SJP's character to me was repellent, an unbelievable combination of little-girl-cutesiness and annoying worldliness. Totally un-sexy.

Posted by: cmu at July 3, 2009 1:30 PM

A friend of ours is renovating a brownstone for a hollywood couple (writers, not actors) who bought in Brooklyn Heights. He had told us that when his clients first bought in Brooklyn, they had dinner with SJP and MB who were very interested in leaving the WV and were thinking of looking in Brooklyn as well. This was maybe a year ago or a little longer than that. So I don't think it's out of the question...

Posted by: columbiatch at July 3, 2009 4:43 PM

Rob is famous, lives in the Slope and is much funnier than SJP.

Five minutes may be all my online time today, so buy for now. (I meant "bye", but "buy" fits the RE topic.)

Posted by: BklynSoFar at July 3, 2009 5:00 PM

The irony of seeing moving to Brooklyn being treated like exile in Siberia in the Sex and the City movie is not lost on me
