first time homeowner DIY/fixes
We just recently closed on a 2 family brick house in Bensonhurst. I've lived in Manhattan most of life and know nothing when it comes to fixing up the house or even stopping a leak. Any advice on where I can find resources to gain more knowledge in this area (fixes for common problems around the house) or just to get an idea how things work in the house. Thanks in advance.

A start would be buying a few books on plumbing and electrical. You can gat excellent ones with lots of pictures at any HD or lowe's, even the Barnes & Noble. They will teach you anything you need to know so that you can start to tackle any electrical & plumbing issues.

just get a general guide at a bookstore.. an encyclopedia of home repairs. it's the best all around starting point for someone with little experience.

Yikes, I do not recommend doing any plumbing or electrical. I haven't needed a plumber but I needed an electrician and I used Christopher John Electrical. They were very pleasant and when they came out they did an inspection of my home so that I knew what needed done or updated. They were not pushy at all, cleaned up well after themselves and were on time. It was an overall pleasant experience and the work that I need done I am doing in phases. Enjoy your new home!!!
