Never made it to Guss' - but Kossar on Grand btw Essex and Norfolk (next to the old isabella's oven) and Pickle Guys on Essex btw Grand and Hester are pretty good if you have a hankering for a pickle
I was watching the movie 'Crossing Delancey' a few weeks ago, which takes place on the LES during the 80s. It was so interesting to see what Essex St looked like back then (it was all pickle stands pretty much) - nowadays, speakeasy style cocktail joints, wine shops, and 2 galleries :(
