Basic Kitchen Reno-Need Permit?

My husband and I recently bought a co-op in Brooklyn and are thinking of doing a basic kitchen renovation. We are not moving walls, changing the location of any electrical or moving any plumbing. We will just be installing new cabinets, new appliances and new flooring. My understanding is that we do not need a permit for this type of thing. Is this correct? Thanks in advance for all replies.

No need for a permit if you're not moving or changing any electrical or plumbing, or making any structural changes.

1842 - Are you saying if they wanted to add "electrical" then they would need a permit?

My understanding is if you're not adding a new breaker and running a new line from the fuse box, then you don't need a permit. E.g. extending a run by adding an extra outlet.

If you ask the DOB they will say "yes" -so for heavens sake don't ask.

Thanks very much for all the replies! Sounds like the consensus is that we are safe without a permit.

Sorry to say ,but it is up to the co-op board. They can require a DOB permit if they want to.I would ask a board member or someone @ the management co.

I confirmed with a family member who is in the business (DOB) that you do not need a permit for this scope of work. Do you have any thoughts as to who you will be using for the reno? I am looking for a reputable contractor for my kitchen as well. I am hearing the name Bullfrog Builders (www.bullfrogny.com) alot on this site...apparently a few people in the Park Slope area are working with them? Thoughts?
