Noise Until 5:30am
There was a loud party, complete with a DJ yelling into the mic, until 5:30 am this morning. 311 calls didn't seem to do much, and I don't feel comfortable approaching the building (filled with weed smokers and angry, swearing young people).
Thoughts?

If the party hosts are renters, you might want to contact their landlord.

Move to the suburbs?

Try calling your precinct directly while the party is going on.

Yes, you may want to move to the suburbs. You are living in the city; it's something you should tolerate within reason:
If it's either the first time (you didn’t say how long you've been living there), on the weekend, and it doesn't happen every week. Let this one slide, or contact the Landlord. Approach them at your own risk. Summer is coming and I'm bracing myself to hearing Buju Banton at 100 gigawatts from my neighbor's yard twice between now and sept. It's on the weekend so I let it slide, if he makes a habit of it, I will feel differently.

I have a couple of neighbors who do that but it's only once a season for each - obviously some kind of annual event. Hope yours was too.

have pity, angry swearing young people have the hardest time enjoying themselves. you see it takes until well after 5am for them to unwind!
one party won't kill anybody, come back when they start doing it every night.

My next door neighbors are two floors of college kids. Gross. I have approached them directly about their parties and it has made some difference. Still, I found out the landlord's name and address and will contact HER if another party with that decibel level occurs on her property. My efforts with calls to the precinct were not very successful. I guess Giuliani's "Quality of Life" initiative is no longer considered a priority.

I don't get the people suggesting that the OP move to the suburbs. It's a two-way street. One party once in awhile I don't particularly find troubling either, but it is also important to be responsible for your noise when you're the one throwing the party.
There's no good reason for a DJ at 5am. DJs can stop at 2am and not get in the way of everyone's fun.

in the past, i've noticed that calling the precinct directly helps. Also, get the name of the community affairs officer.
Also, if you see drugs, feel free to mention it. It might get you bumped up in the hit parade.

Our NYPD precinct has FAQs for when to call 911 and when to call the precinct. Noise is definitely a call the precinct direct. While I am reasonably tolerant, I think that 10 p.m. Sunday - Thursday, and 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays is the cut off for noise that can be heard outside your apartment or house, before that noise should not be so loud that it disturbs others unduly. I don't enjoy having other people's taste in music inflicted on me, if it's so loud I have to shut my windows and use earplugs or noise canceling headphones to get peace, it's too loud, and if it goes on for more than half an hour I'm entitled to ask the precinct to investigate. If the music is within the allowable range, the NYPD won't do anything. If it's too loud, they'll direct the noisemakers to lower the volume. Noise is part of living in the city, but you don't have to be blasted at all hours of the day and night.

How about blasting some music at 9am on a Sunday morning, so they cant sleep after a night of partying? Or perhaps a leaf blower?

It's a weekly event; every Saturday. Sometimes the police shut it down earlier than others. I wouldn't have thought twice if it was once.
I will call the precinct directly next time to see if that helps.
