Inexpensive rugs?

Hi! I need to cover up my floors for my lease (to prevent noise). Fair enough, but can anyone suggest a place to buy nice, inexpensive rugs? Thanks!!

Ikea has lots of inexpensive rugs. They also have hand made Iranian orientals at fairly low prices.

Try Ikea or Target.com

overstock.com

I'm in agreement with Bob Marvin on Ikea, but have to question the "handmade Iranian." Not proposing this as a particularly cheap alternative, but just saying that Knotting Slope (in Park Slope) sells exquisite fair-trade, handmade carpets. They will not be renewing their lease and are in the midst of a sale until they close. They have dropped their prices tremendously to sell off their inventory: Knotting Slope, 242 7th Ave. (betw. 5th & 6th Sts.), Brooklyn, NY 11215 - (718) 832-2628‎.

Also try ABC clearance/remnants... good buys there.

Ikea truly has great rugs. I have long admired them. They are usually well under $100 (depending on size).

But for whatever reason I've bought mine at West Elm, but they aren't that cheap and they don't last long. About $180 for 8 x 10.

The best rug/carpet place for area rugs and wall to wall that I've found is KAS Carpet,24844 Rockaway Blvd, Rosedale. It's just past JFK but is well worth the trip. Besides great prices on installed wall to wall, they have a tremendous selection of remnants (some are huge)and great selection of all kinds of area rugs. Prices are far below ABC where I've bought from in the past and Kallifan that was on Atlantic Ave years ago. There is no sales preasure and you can spend hours looking through their vast stock. I've learned that decorators and designers also use they.

I also recommend ABC Carpet, in their basement. They have remants for cheap.

Also, I always thought all rental agreements had that thing about requiring rugs, but everyone just ignored it. I know I did.

The Iranian rugs at Ikea really are hand made, although they're not in the same league as those at Knotting Slope. They ARE handknotted rugs, not "hand-tufted" Chinese or Indian crap (made with a tufting gun and coated with latex on the back). I've recently bought two small ones and they're quite nice, much better IMO than the Afghan rugs at the 7th Avenue flea market.

If you're looking for inexpensive, perhaps consider getting some carpet (even nice stuff will be cheaper than a rug) and getting the edges bound/wrapped.

I agree with those above who mentioned the basement of ABC Carpet. They also have a great website with lots of clearance rugs that I have never seen in the store. I love this one! http://store.abccarpet.com/store/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=24&idproduct=2196
And it is only $249!

Awesome everyone -- thanks so much!!!

If you go to the ABC Carpet basement, remember that the prices you see there are further negotiable. We recently talked a $599 rug down to $400. That's a 6x9 rug.

If you're looking for authentic hand-knotted Iranian rugs at a good price I would recommend http://rugman.com - they even have a tool where you can preview how your rug will look in your living room.
